There are differences from using a usb and ethernet.

Ethernet: It has its own processor built into the card so you dont have to utilize most of the cpu. It doesnt have to wait for other components resources to finish in order for it to work.

USB: Its not faster or better than ethernet. It uses the cpu to do most of its work. If you have a printer and a modem sharing the usb port your internet connection will drop until the printer is done. Plus the USB port is unstable when its hooked up to a modem.

I suggest to use the ethernet port. USB is only faster when you transfer files from one USB port to another. The USB port can only be as fast as the weakest link. That also depends if its USBv1 or USBv2.

I have mine on ethernet but my computer gave me a pop up message telling me if I move it to usb it will be faster so I phoned my cable company and asked them and they told me that usb is slightly faster then ethernet but not enough to notice.

By your question it appears that this is the first time you had high speed cable connection, you will find it's way faster then dial-up and dsl, why not try both and test the speed with the below link it will tell you exactly how fast it is.

Just fill in your phone area code so it knows what to measure it against and choose dsl/cable and press the test it button. It will come back with the speed of your connection and tell you what it is comparing it to in your area.

You can use it connected both ways and see for yourself which is faster and by how much.

It's a cool link you may want to save.

Well, like people say, USB is slightly faster than Ethernet. But what if you have an older labtop or PC without an Ethernet socket (I have a labtop like that) or a computer that doesn't have a ethernet adaptor? in my opinion, use the ethernet to connect to a computer with an Ethernet plug, so you can connect an older computer with the USB

for connecting to the internet ethernet is the faster of the two cables, usb modems only go up to 2mbps and ethernet goes right on upto the fastest available speeds, i think ethernet goes to 100mbps unless you have a gigabit ethernet which goes to 1000 mbps. that is why all modern modems and routers use ethernet instead of usb. if you have vista it does not support usb modems

Ethernet

I recommend ethernet but either will work equally well (both USB and Ethernet are capable of delivering the full speed of your Comcast Internet)
