Dem V Rep? Lib V Con? or something else? I recently read an article questioning this very thing. In it, the author points out that it is the wealthy elite who are trying to keep us divided,in an attempt to conquer us, (We The People), to maintain power. I've seen many of us passionately divided on many things, but we did come out of our respective boxes to rally against illegal immigration. None of the great moral issues of the day have ever been voted on by "we the people". The elitists have used the courts to ram a new America down our throats. If our elected officials really want to represent our values, why don’t they let us determine what those values are by referendum? They certainly aren't listening to us.
In concluding the author reveals it is more an issue of "The Elite" v "We The People" and I have to concur. Thoughts?

Jeff P that is exactly what the author points out. The elite divide us into our little groups and we focus on what is important to us personally - meanwhile (back in DC) they do as they damn well please while we are preoccupied with the BS they throw at us.

Very much so. And it's "The Elite" who own special interest groups and Corporate America. The groups that our own representatives have sold out to.
We've allowed these people to spend too much time 'representing us'. I'm a believer that they only way for us to every get back on the right track again (regardless of who ends up being our President), is to vote those out who have been in there for ages and no longer represent "We The People", and enact term limits.
If we don't do that, it's back to business as usual. We'll see few, if any, changes.

It's more like the Far Left vs. the Far Right these days. The majority of us, whether we're liberal or conservative (I don't use Dem or Rep since both parties are the same in a lot of respects) are willing to compromise and give a little to make sure everyone can live with the result. However, folks like Howard Dean are trying to push the Democratic party way to the far-left, while the Christian Coalition and other people try to push the Republicans to the far-right. This is where it starts getting freaky, as those parties insist on one way or the other. There's no middle-ground or compromise for them.
As for the courts...they howl about the courts ram-roding their own agenda when it doesn't agree with them, plus elected officials going out of their way to break the law. San Francisco mayor Gavin Newsom overstepping his boundaries to award gay couples marriage licenses when it is clearly against the law and he was voted to uphold the law. Judge Rob Moore in Alabama defies the Supreme Court ordering him to remove a copy of the 10 Commandments from his courtroom...blatantly defying an order and abusing his position.
The idiots are on the fringe, but they're running the show right now...that scares me.

Definetely there is left, and right. But I should think the biggest division we have right now unfortunately is between the rich and the poor. By the way (more unfortunately still) is the fact that I keep on reading that there's almost no middle class America. At least not in the bigger and supposedly rapidly developing cities. This, such as in Miami, where it is reported that White, Black, and Hispanic middle class is fleeing from the extremely high taxes and ridiculously high insurance rates which seem to have befallen heavier in these two last years.

Interesting. I'd have to say yes and no. Yes, the elitists are the "dividers" but the right is easily convinced to hate the left. Very little substance, just hate those on the left. So the people allow the division and allow the control. Republicans like to support the elite(like tax breaks for the wealthy) because they like to imagine that they will someday be wealthy or elite. That chance is minuscule-like winning the lottery-because people rarely move from their financial status in the US(if your parents were middle class, you are likely to be middle class although with inflation your middle class income is much higher than your parents). So, people would need to start voting for themselves.

You're right. It is about the elite keeping us too busy fighting amongst ourselves to see where the true threat lies. It almost always works. The elite also have the privilege of settling the arguments that they start between different groups of people. And we accept it because it is their job to protect us from ourselves and each other. Any way they see fit.

No. It's intelligent people who disagree on politics but want to have an honest discussion versus the idiots who want to identify people based solely on party and how loud they can yell. So far the idiots are winning- there are just too many.
In seriousness, that is part of it. another part is yes, left versus right, but I think the most important part of the divide right now is the rich versus the poor and middle class. And our leaders fall in the rich class, and that's why our entire government seems to be so unpopular right now.

I witness how people are indoctrinated, our "leaders" mentioning Iraq and al Qaida in the same breath, Saddam and Osama etc, but I am amazed at how effective it is.
The headlines scream the lies, but the retraction is in a small font on page 12.
It does seem to be true, we are weak minded sheep.

Click on 'Silent Weapons for Secret Wars" then click on the list of it's members.
We are in fact like herd to them and nothing more.
They control everything and are controlling everything right now.
They are in fact behind it all and we are too busy fighting with each other to see it.And that's exactly what they want.
They want us to be distracted with porn, politics,tv,
work,bills,wars,G.W. and everything else they throw at us.
It isn't about Republicans vs.Democrats it's about Them vs. Us.
Did you know that our President is a member of the Elite Society which is on a mission to destroy us?
Did you also know that they are Satanists?
Their main objective right now is to destroy Christianity because in doing so they will have destroyed all morale and ethical beliefs leaving behind a people who have no reason to care about their fellow man and are morally and ethically bankrupt.
They want division not unity so that's why both parents have to work in order to make it financially.
They don't want the mother at home taking care of her children they want her in a brightly lit office while the kids are in a public school or day care having their minds polluted with filth.
They know most marriages like that end in divorce leaving the children prey to any predator that comes along to destroy them.
They want us to destroy ourselves so when they come along with a solution to our demise we will gladly accept it.
And the solution?
New World Order.
They want a one world Government in which to rule supreme over all the cattle of the earth.
Sound familiar?
