The immigration issue isn't very important, it is just a smoke screen. The more people worry about immigration, the less they think about the dollar losing value, jobs going overseas, the mess in Iraq, etc.

You're misunderstanding the scope of the crime.
Trespassing is also usually just a misdemeanor -- where the travel by itself causes no other damage. Just entering an are and then immediately leaving is trespassing -- but no actual harm was done beyond the technical violation of the entry.
If someone commits fraud, or theft, or tax evasion, or whatever while here illegally -- that's a separate crime.
But if they are just here without having filled out the correct paperwork -- that's no different than driving without a driver's license or driving without insurance. It's a minor paperwork crime that by itself causes no other damage.
You need to look at the crime by itself -- not in connection with any other potential separate crimes.
If someone walks across the border, walks 10 feet into the US, and then walks back across the other way -- that's the crime they have committed. Illegal entry without authorization. But if that's all they do, what physical harm was actually done? None.
That's why it's only a misdemeanor -- because by itself, it only refers to failure to fill out proper paperwork. Other separate crimes are other separate crimes.

People get mad because they get sick of losing out on jobs that go to the illegals. The illegals don't have to pay taxes. So they come over here, take the jobs, don't pay taxes, get people pregnant and then they get sick of the country or get caught and are sent back home for a while. That is why people get mad.

I dont know.. I was wondering the same thing....and people who are here illegally and work DO pay taxes. They are not exempt.
I was born in Germany and have lived here since I was 5 years old. I am now 20 and just have gotten my citizenship, after finding out that when I turn 21 I will be considered an illegal immigrant.
I have been working since I was 18 and have had to pay taxes, so its not true that people who are here illegally do not pay taxes.

A law about illegal immigrants is a paradox of sorts. These people are not citizens, and therefore are not entitled to any of the rights given to Americans. They are just sort of given these rights, but they aren't entitled to them in the constitution, which applies to U.S. citizens. We could essentially put all of these people in a concentration camp, because they have no (or few) rights. This does not reflect on my personal views, just an observation of the law.

You tend to conveniently forget the value illegals create by working for less than half of the stated rate.
