The cold tolerances indicated pertain to mature bamboos. Expect some leaf damage after a freeze or a frost. Protect young plants especially from the cold.

Tropical Clumping Bamboo
Dendrocalamus giganteus. This very large-stemmed bamboo is originally from India.

Its freeze sensitivity is unknown.

It can attain a height of 80-100 ft. and culm diameters of 8-10 inches depending upon growing conditions. It is used in home construction, furniture manufacture, for crafts, farm equipment and paper pulp. The shoots are edible. A specimen is on display at ECHO.
Thanks for asking the question I've been wanting to plant giant bamboo but wasn't sure which one /POSITIVELY Do Not want running bamboo and your is clumping.

sorry but unless you live in some magical place in Pa that doesnt go below 30 - your going to lose them....

you could plant them in pots and bring the pots in once the temp starts to drop...

hope you have tall ceilings... cause they grow quite fast *grin*

also, I had to remove the bamboo in my garden as i found it a haven for ants...

I assume it gets below 30 F in your area, so it won't survive long if the temperature falls below 30 for any length of time.
To find out for sure, call your state agricultural extension office; they should know for sure.
