I would like to find a catterpillar and watch it make a cocoon.
So where is a good place in the back yard to find one?
Also what do they eat besides leaves, grass and fruit?

Well I know with tomatoe worms they are usually on the bottom or the under side of a tomatoe leaf. You really have to look close because they blend in with the plant. And they do turn out to be a beautiful butterfly. They basically eat the leaves and the fruit of the tomatoe plant. Other types of caterpillars I would suggest is to go around areas of your yard or woods where it is damp or under rocks, broken branches on the ground where ever it is moist. Good luck!

You'll find them on leaves, but you'll have took hard. The best thing is if you find one that has just started to make a cocoon, as I understand that each type of caterpillar is fussy about what kind of leaf it attaches to. You'll see them dangling from a silk thread. Put them in a jar, with the leaves they were attached to.

OH! and remember to put air holes in!

Depends on what kind of moth/butterfly you want to raise. I'm giving you a link to a page of how-to's.
