I was bought by a Jap industrialist and is being dismantled and shipped off to Tokyo.

Seriously, it's getting a thorough cleaning and repair. The clock will be back online soon but Big Ben will be down for several weeks.

2009- is Big Ben's 150th Anniversary !!! So he's being all cleaned up- for the big occasion. There's going to be a huge party- I hear...-So they want Ben to look nice, & make SURE he's running in ship shape! Like Ben himself- it's a BIG job. So they're getting an early start- just in case he needs special parts made- to fit his unique situation (Let's face it, HOW MANY "Grandfather Clocks" of HIS size- do you see standing around anymore!). :)

It stopped.
I don't see what the big deal is, it's not like that's the only way to tell the time.
And it'll be fixed soon, it's a number one priority XD
If they'd have left it, more tourists woulda gone to London to see it. More tourism = more money.
Why have they fixed it? =/
