Is there something else otherwise than bug spray that works?

There are ants and spiders.

Well one sure option is to call an exterminator.

But if that costs too much for you:

Leave out a plate of old red meat near the site that contains ants. Ants will come crawling to that in no time. Then where there's a whole lot, kill them to death with ant spray. It really kills a whole lot at once.

As for spiders, just make sure that you don't have any places that are cluttered and messy. Spiders like to take those places to hide in, and retreat.

I hope this helps.

Apparently placing 1 or 2 chestnuts in corners of rooms, on shelves or anywhere spiders like to hang out works well. I have not tried it yet but my sister did and it worked for her.
As for the ants I found that Raid ant killer in a small squeeze bottle (looks like a nasal spray bottle) works very well within a few hours. Keep your pets away though because it is sweet and they may want to eat it.

If you are really haveing that much trouble, call a professional. Most do estimates at a minumum rate. I know Ecolab Pest has a corporate division but you may want to check your yellow pages for something local? Typically they will "fog" or "dust" the exterior of the building or home and spray inside which is safe for you and your family. Good luck getting rid of the little critters.

go to wal marts pet supplies, look for flea spay by ADAMS, yes i did say flea spray, if you read the label it kills more than just fleas, the smell is not too bad, and believe me i do know, it does not hurt my lungs to breath, and for someone like me how has had toxic chemical poisioning, it is a blessing to find something that works and i can breath. There is a can you can get or there is a spay mist. Both are in white containers. I have not tried the foggers.

spiders are eating the ants. bounce dryer sheets stuck anywhere you might see an ant will help. also, place a thin line of borax where you've seen the ants

find their hill, then pour a pan of boiling water on it........
