In a shocking survey this week it was announced that top of the summer reading lists of Labour politicians was Richard Dawkins' The God Delusion:

Does this mean that we are being led by a bunch of godless individuals who are intent on sidelining the Church of Christ even more within the UK?

I am an atheist and thankfully, I don't have to be caught up in all the religious wars. I believe in things I can answer with facts not a load of fantasy that can't be proven.

There is a religious section on here, which I avoid at all costs, I suggest your question would be better posted within that section :)

The United Kingdom is "run" under the authority of Her Majesty The Queen, Defender of the Faith.
The Prime Minister who "runs" the country is a son of a Church of Scotland Minister and is known to be an active Christian. The former Prime Minister is rumoured to be considering becoming a Roman Catholic from his present Anglo Catholic position.
Just because people read a particular book, it doesn't mean that they agree with its contents!

till somewhat these days, British top ministers did no longer promote their religious ideals, so that's confusing to declare. the conventional information became that faith could be a turn off for the voters.

Sidelining? The Church has long since lost its power in this country. I'm not saying this is necessarily a good thing or a bad thing. I have read the book though, and found it highly interesting.

I'm not so sure what would be so bad about that
we are a multi cultural, multi faith society
around the world religion is the cause of much unrest
religion and politics should be separate for everyone's sake

And why not? Christianity only represents less than 18% of the worlds population and of that 60 % are RC.....The house of lords has a large number of christians as well as the Arch Bishops,,the queen is head of state and Defender of the Faith,,,,times change and possibly there are more atheists then christians in the house of commons but you never heard the atheists moaning when it was the other way around.....

Maybe they are just trying to keep an open mind.

I would be quite happy to be led by godless individuals.
