I love my country!

I love our way of life and all that our GREAT NATION has to offer!

It is bad enough to hear foreigners belittling the US, but Americans self-absorbed in rhetoric about our leaders and this wonderful country as well! Shameful display of loyalty!!!

To you foreigners who slander America! This American says GO STRAIGHT TO you know where!

If you really took pride in America, you would value the freedom of speech that Americans enjoy and the rights of other Americans to disagree and stand up for what they believe- even if it's wrong.

Pride and loyalty are not the same, but you have managed to lump them together...

There are some things about this "great nation" I am not proud of, yet my loyalty remains.

Perhaps you are blinded by your pride. Isn't "pride" one of the seven deadly sins?

Edit: Vaughn - you claim to be a teacher and I do not dispute that, but it concerns me that you seem so misguided as to be ashamed.

Power hungry dictators? Exactly what power do we gain by assisting another country in being able to govern itself? As a teacher, I would have hoped you would consider this as an opportunity to teach them how to fish, rather than just pass out what you catch. Granted, our system of government has its share of problems, but to leave them with nothing is wrong- and you should know that.

Given them ammunition? Our existence was all the ammunition they required. Countries compete and each one is proud of itself. The United States is just one more competitor. Just as our two major political parties have repeatedly proven, there need not be any substance- just a hint of impropriety.

I hope you do not teach in a public school...people should not be forced into your classroom.

many don't experience represented. Many are having hassle accepting that democracy can recommend that a million/2 the individuals get what they % and the different a million/2 do no longer. Consensus isn't performed. And for all the combating carried out right here, the politicians from the two aspects do much extra!

I am proud to be an American, but I am ashamed of this Admin. and their actions. Pride in country is NOT the same thing as support of the Prez. Mark Twain said we should "...be loyal to the country all the time, loyal to the government only when it deserves it...", and right now, and for the past 6.5 years, it has not deserved our loyalty or support. Bush is an assault on America! And Congress is right behind him!

Regardless of anyone else's political opinions about America, and even if I myself disagree politically, with any elected officials, Libs, or Reps, my first love will always be my country, America. I will do anything it takes to preserve, and save her, and the freedom I am granted by those who have fought, and died, to make her what she is.

Why would I take pride in something that I lucked out on? I could have been born anywhere in the world but was born in the US. Pride goeth before a fall.

I respect all that America was and still could be but we have strayed far off the path of our founding fathers. I am not ashamed but I am not prideful either.

I love my country in the same way that I love my family; it's not a blind love, nor a lust, but a true love wherein I care enough to speak up when I see something that I feel needs to be changed.

Which America do you mean: the secular democratic republic our Founding Fathers created to serve the people; or the Republican Theo-fascist humanity-hating evil empire of the Bush Administration?
