This is not as hard to answer as I originally thought. We don't forget. We become tunnel-visioned because it's easier. Our society is all about convenience--some people divorce because staying married is harder--it is much easier to sit within your comfort zone than it is to grow and stretch and reach for what's beyond.

I have become successful in my field by learning to see from other people's perspectives. I unknowingly taught this to kids in art classes and they taught me what I was teaching them.
An expression of that is on http://www.erhardsculpt.net.
One the most influential people in the world who never gets into the New York Times is named Daisaku Ikeda. He has been seeing multiple perspectives since he was a teenager in WWII Japan. His dialogs with leaders are read by top-level intellectuals all over the world. Ikeda has founded a school and university system, his organization SGI is in 190 countries teaching people how to open their minds to reality, not just their momentary impulses.

There seems to be a need to establish some sort of consistency -- a quality that decreases with an onslaught of divergent opinions, etc. -- for some individuals to obtain psychic security, or as expressed by a19th century Transcendentalist--"the need of consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds".

The main problem is that some people fail to realize that there are other opinions to take into consideration as some people are pretty much set in their train of thoughts to look at things from a different perspective.

i think that may be true for some, but for many, their path to forming their solid well-thought out opinions opens their eyes to the many choices/possible paths in life, i wouldnt say the truth is non-existant, its just that one persons truth might not be anothers, we tend to think in terms of one truth, one way , one path etc etc, just as there may be two routes to a destination, one a fast highway and another a slow winding country road, either one may be the best route, depending on the person traveling, if that is true to them

You need to rethink all this. Do you really think it could be true that you don't exist? Do you think it may be true that if you cut off your arm you'll grow a new one? Do you think it's true that you need to eat to live? No? Try it.
Where do you guys get these crazy ideas? If you really believe this BS and act on it, then you have effectively destroyed your means of survival.

Good Heavens! How did you fall through such a narrow crack? I'd pull you out but I can't seem to find an opening. Did you slam it closed behind you?
