You know, people always say they don't really mind being watched all the time. Or that their biometric data will be stored and kept by the government. Or that your private calls will be tapped. Well...

WHY THE HELL NOT? Please, tell me, why you think the government is perfect and worthy enough to govern your life?

People use the argument that "I'm not doing anything wrong, therefore I don't care if they listen in on me."

This confuses me as much as it confuses you. For one thing, who defines "wrong"? What if a fascist leader (Republican *or* Democrat) tries to take over the White House and stage a coup. Will you still be glad you gave up your right to privacy? What if you strongly disagree with a leaders' stand on issues of abortion or the draft... do you want to be branded an enemy of the government, for voicing your opinions in private to friends?

People who say "as long as you're doing nothing wrong" tend to belong to the majority. It's like the ones who said that McCarthy had every right to ask citizens' political affiliations. People who said "no he doesn't" were automatically branded as communists (whether they were or weren't). People who thought McCarthy had that right were ANTI-communist, and thus just saw this as another useful weapon against "the enemy." They would sing a different tune if suddenly THEY were in the minority. And political climates DO change.

An excellent question and the historical reference is appropriate. All abusive governmetns start off with close monitoring or the population in order to "protect" the nation from threats.

This then progresses to the government "removing" the "undesireable" persons.

The escalation continues until you have a population of very fearful people.

it collapsed for the comparable reason that even the excellent athletes desire officers and rules. while the so-noted as conservatives (extremely radicals) had administration of all branches of our govt from 2000-2006 (republican extremely need everybody to overlook that) any logical regulation became efficiently got rid of. leaving firms who're only interested in short term salary devoid of regulatory framework is approximately as clever as letting 5th graders % on how grades must be desperate. yet bear in mind that republicans had to cut back govt to the factor the place it 'must be drowned in a shower' so as that they did. and don't think of for one 2nd that they did no longer do this on objective - they lined their own wallet, gave billions of OUR funds to fat cat firms and destroyed govt to the factor that who ever accompanied could desire to take the measures being taken in the present day. and who in the worldwide costs marilyn manson in any case? because of the fact he have been given it backwards - once you leave capitalism thoroughly on my own, that is going to gravitate in direction of company fascism - that is precisely what has exceeded off. the bush administration has tried to coach our united states of america into an oligarchy - actual did, if we don't concentration on it. that is extremely as much as us - can we'd like those heartless firms determining each and every thing for us?

We trade away freedoms for a bit of security. The founding fathers are spinning in their graves. The Bush administration is one small step away from a Fascist dictatorship. And most Americans march like sheep because thye are making some money.

I can't, because I don't.

This country has badly fallen from the standards we hold ourselves to respect -- we are no longer the land of the free, because we have abandoned those freedoms -- nor the home of the brave, when every decision is based on fear.

The only question is, can we stop the fall into fascism before it becomes irreversible, given how far over that cliff we've already gone?

Your experience should teach you that anything someone thinks is worth collecting has value to the person collecting it. Value can be bought and sold which is what will happen to biometric data.
