YES IT IS BUT IT DEPENDS ON THE MAKE, MODEL AND THE YEAR.

YOU WILL ALSO NEED MANY SPECIAL TOOLS TO DO THIS TYPE OF JOB.

ONCE YOU HAVE THE OLD ONE OFF AND ARE READY TO INSTALL THE NEW ONE YOU WILL HAVE TO MAKE SURE THAT THE SHAFT THAT THE PULLEY IS ON IS NOT WORN OUT AND ALSO YOU WILL HAVE TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU SHIM THE CLUTCH HUB CORRECTLY.

the respond on your question is "sometimes" The seize/pully/bearing assembly sometimes acts because of the fact the "wipe" floor for the front seal of the compressor. whilst it does you will unfastened each and all of the freon. do not attempt to eliminate the seize/pully/bearing assembly until you recognize if the seize/pully/bearing assembly is the "wipe" or not. Are you particular that it is the bearing on the seize or is it the belt. maximum "squeeking" is a dry spot on the belt. try some belt dressing before you're beginning up the seize/pully/bearing assembly. If the "squeeking" is going away then replace the belt and clean the pully.
