"The Shawshank Redemption" was filmed about four miles from my old house in Mansfield, Ohio, where I was born and raised. Also filmed at the former Ohio State Reformatory were "Harry and Walter Go To New York" (1976, James Caan, Elliott Gould), "Tango & Cash" (1989, Sly Stallone and Kurt Russell), as well as the Russian prison scene near the end in "Air Force One" (1997, Harrison Ford).
Mansfield is half way between Cleveland and Columbus. I now live about an hour+ from there.

Half of my life was spent in the Washington, D.C. area, and I also spent a boatload of time in Baltimore. So, yes, definitely. Areas which have movies actively shooting can be tons of fun as long as you're not a driver dealing with blocked-off high-traffic sections.

Yes, here in St.Petersburg...they did scenes from Oceans 11. You can bet half the women in this area were hoping to see George Clooney.
