Well, my first question is what kind of nest is it. Before you go killing the wasp you may want to find out what kind of wasp it is. There is only one truly aggressive wasp and, having said that, they really aren't that bad. I'm talking of the paper wasp and they are the species that builds a honeycomb type of nest. In my opinion it is okay to get rid of this species. Paper wasps can pose a threat to small animals and children because they tend to defend their hive viciously and in a swarm. If on the other hand your wasp is the kind and friendly and seriously beneficial Mud Dauber then leave them alone. These are the wasps that build their nurseries out of mud that look like long cylindrical pipes. Mud daubers love to eat spiders and their faves are the Black widow.
As for all other wasps and bees, just ignore them and they will ignore you. These are beneficial creatures and that do us a service by killing garden pests and pollinating our vegetation.

If you need to get rid of the hive then you can get Raid wasp and Hornet killer. It has a 20ft reach so you can spray the hive from a safe distance.

P.S. Hornets are gentle giants so I don't know why they've been singled out by Raid.
Just ignore the Hornet part.

Tonio,

Live and let live pal. I see many posts about spiders being a pest. Well, wasps will sort your spiders out for you. The name of the game is to bring nature back into your garden. You should see how many spiders those little beggars kill.

Cheers -
