I think you are talking about 3 strings doubled, so you have 6 strings to work with? In that case you can start as you would when working with 2 strands and add an extra strand whenever you want: http://knopen.ismijnhobby.nl/tables/scoubi-4-eng.html

The site of the Boondoggle man is the best site for boondoggle or craft lace, in the first answer you got one address, here is an other, on a different 3 string page: http://www.boondoggleman.com/prj_triangle_stitch.htm

There are more sites with lanyards:

http://www.carbidecamps.net/CombinedActivities/LanyardsPage/CraftsLanyardPage.htm
http://www.makingfriends.com/lanyard_keyring_rwb.htm

And some instructions with different string, but starting is the same, here with 3 strings:http://www.yoarra.nl/eng/technieken-3rond.php
And here with 6:http://www.yoarra.nl/eng/scoubidous6.php
http://www.scoubiguide.co.uk/
And how to start: http://www.yoarra.nl/eng/begin.php

And here is a different way to work with 6 strands again, and 8:
