It looks like it's going to be a clear night tonight and I want to do some astrophotography. Does anyone have some suggestions of some good DSO's seen from the continental USA? My last shots were of M101 and M5, and I was thinking that M31 should be high enough by midnight to photograph. Or I could try to get some shots of the Perseids. Any other sugestions? I'm using a 300mm f/5 telephoto with my Canon Rebel XT to photograph the DSO's.

How about NGC6992, the Veil Nebula? You probably won't be able to see it visually, but a 300mm lens should give you a wide enough field of view to just point it at the place the chart says and just take a long exposure. I once got it with a 400mm f6.3 lens, but the exposure was one hour long. That was with 103a-F film, back in the olden days.
