If you are a resident check with the council and if a tourist check with the tourist office or even ask in the place you stay, b and b, pub etc.. Galway had a major incident over the last 3 months with the water supply and a rare bacteria which got into the system created havoc. I am from Galway but live overseas and its been very embarassing for Galway and indeed Ireland to have such a shoddy thing happen. If you dont feel safe do what I do here in Africa, drink bottled water all the time, boil bottled water in the kettle and brush your teeth in bottled water. Good luck and enjoy Galway it's a great city.

There was a scare during the last few months concerning the drinking water in Galway. Personally I would drink it, but in moderation.

no you have to boil it first or buy bottled water. I just bought a filter that I've attatched to my tap that gets rid of the cryptosporidium thats in the galway water. alot of hotels have these fitted in now too

no my friends in galway say that the official word is that for the next FEW MONTHS, any tap water should be boiled before consumption, or obviously you could stick to bottled.

If you are in a hotel or restaurant, no problem, there is bottled water supplied. If you are self-catering and taking it from a tap,we have been told it is safe again now, but many people may still prefer to use bottled or to boil.

No it is not it need to be boiled for everything drop you put into your mouth.
I managed to survive there before they discovered the water was polluted with human excrements and chemical by drinking only Guinness.
I urge you to do the same..

Water is fine to drink in Ireland and the rest of the British Isles. Our tapwater is strictly controlled.
