Hi JennyAnn. That was a myth that began circulating back in the late '50s. It comes around again from time to time. There is a bit of truth to it though. Back in the 50s, married men did live longer, but there was a reason. Back then, the men that didn't marry were usually handicapped somehow and even institutionalized and were not candidates for a full length life to begin with. Leave that portion of the study out, and it gives the impression that 'you'd better get married', which was the mindset back then. However, with normal, healthy males, there is no difference with life span between married or not. Good question, and I've waited for years to be able to explain this myth. Thx.

That is not the case where I live, I now live in an all senior community. I have many men neighbors who have outlived their wifes, they are in their 80s. I have 4 married neighbors, one 83, one 87, one 89 and one just had her 93 bday all are married, recently a good friend passed away, she was single and 72. Last year 2 very active single men in their 70s went to be with the Lord.
I guess it all depends on where you live.

Married men don't live longer, it just feels that way. Now I go into deep dodo. Reading the answers of the women here affirms the wisdom of my not ever marring a second time. I have never seen a woman who killed herself taking care of a man. And the slob I was married to sure didn't. I worked 8-12 hours a day 5-6 days a week while she could not even keep the dishes washed.
thanks for allowing me to vent.

Married men live longer then single men because their wives take care of them. Married woman die sooner than single women because they are exhausted from taking care of their husbands

Married men are taken care of. The wife looks out for his diet, tells him when his doctor/dentist appts. are due etc. Single men are on their own. I have to keep reminding my son to go get a physical (he's not married yet).
Married women are busy taking care of the man, the house, cooking and cleaning, the kids, the pets, and working outside the home. Phew!
Single women can socialize, sleep, and look cute, and work late because its just themselves to consider. But then you knew that.

Because the men have a woman to take care of them for most of their lives! From Momma....to the wife!
Because single women do not have to take care of a man while she forgets her identity!

Maybe with continous nagging "it seems LONGER " Oh, now there's an original joke. Ha ha. My uncle shot an elephant in his pajamas. The real reason is because there's someone who actually cares whether the guy is alive or dead. Bachelors don't have that reassurance.

Nothing says lovin' like something from the oven. I don't know where you got your statistics but I haven't noticed the women side of that being true in my life time.

Because women stay on the man's back, saying:
"You better go to the doctor about that thing."
And therefore the doctors catch problems earlier.
Whereas a single guy will put off seeing the doctor.
