I have several Thousand dollars missing out of my checking account this morning and I would like to know what happens next. The bank says that the charges are just"pending" although my over draft protection has already began to take money out of my savings account. The bank also indicates that I have to wait until these charges post and then wait 10 days. Then What. I have very good Credit and do not want to lose it. Just F.Y.I. I had noticed a weird charge earlier in the week for a $1.59 and alerted the "number" bank. They said not to worry unless it posts. Well it did not but thousands did today.

You need to visit your bank and do some paperwork called an "affadvit of forgery." Then, the bank will temporarily credit the money back to you pending their investigation. Provided that they can determine the charges are not legit, they will conclude the investigation - otherwise they will take the money back and you will have to pay it. Don't worry - you usually win.

Keep in mind, there is generally some liability on your part. You may be responsible for $50-500 of each fradulent transaction that was used in your name. If the criminal used your card number with your PIN, then you may be liable for 100% of everything because it's your job to protect your PIN.

You are experiencing the reason debit cards ain't such a good idea. If this were a credit card, you could dispute and not be out of pocket.

I suggest you go to the bank and insist they stop the transaction. Fill out all their fraud paperwork. Also file a police report and put a fraud alert on your credit report, just in case.

They have cameras and they will just have to find out for you. Go to the bank and speak to someone higher up than customer service. bettyk
