You must complete your a-g requirements with a 3.0 or higher (in your sophomore and junior years, freshman and senior grades are excluded in the GPA calculation) to be eligible to apply to the UC campuses. If you have less than a 3.0, you may be eligible to apply if you score, on average, 700 or better on all sections of the SAT Reasoning Test and the two Subject Tests (see additional details on satisfying this requirement here: http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/undergrad_adm/paths_to_adm/freshman/exam_eligibility.html ).

Acceptance rate for students with less than 3.0 GPA is about 8% at UC Riverside for Fall 2007.

If you're in high school, do this:

Check with UC-Riverside and find out what their transfer requirements are. Most universities allow you to take classes at Junior Colleges--up to some specified number of credit-hours--and then transfer in, if you have kept a certain GPA. So, all hope is NOT lost!

You just may need to take your freshman English, History, Math, etc... at a local JC for your first year. Which is NOT a bad thing--it'll be a LOT cheaper and probably a lot more convenient. Remember, your freshman year--no matter where you go to college--you're going to take pretty much the same courses, so it doesn't matter where you take them.

Good luck!

According to the College Board, 8% of their admitted freshmen had GPAs between 2.75 and 3.0, so there is a chance if your other qualifications are particularly strong.

I WAS TOLD THAT THE MINIMUM GPA TO APPLY TO A UC CHANGED TO 3.0 LAST YEAR. ARGH.

and no, i dont think so. unless youre like a fantabulous person who went through alot, has greatextracurriculars and all, you probably wont get in because UCR is harder to get into than UCM, whose average GPA admitted was like 3.59. and its not really that hard to get intothose schools.

i say, go to a commmunity college and transfer in ur junior year to like UCB or UCLA or wherever.

I don't think you're likely to get into any UC with a gpa lower than 3.5. You should probably be looking at CSUs and studying for the SAT. If you have your heart set on going to a UC, I would recommend starting at a community college and then trying to transfer as a junior. But you'll need to put some effort into getting better grades than you have in high school.

Just a little food for thought. I did about 3 years at community colleges and found the course material and work load were not that much different than high school - I just had to be more motivated. However, with I transfered to CSU Chico, I was immediately aware that the course material was much tougher and moved at a faster pace, and the professor's expectations were much higher.
