Read 'The Scottish Crown Series' by Carol Umberger. She won the Golden Heart Award in 2001 for Romance Novelists in America. There are 4 novels in the series. 1. Circle of Honor 2. The Price of Freedom 3. The Mark of Salvation 4. The Promise of Peace. They are great reading and keep your attention through each entire book. I'm sure you will like this romance series. It is 'a riveting story of betrayal and love on the highlands of midieval Scotland.
Another excellent 4 book series is by Liz Curtis Higgs. Its another 'can't put it down until its finished' series about two sisters, Leana and Rose in love with the same man, Jamie, and it will keep you in suspense until the end of the 4th book. In this series you always anticipate what is going to happen next and it 'never' does and that is the makings for a terrific author. You will not be able to guess how this series ends, you will have to read all 4 books to find out. I had to wait until both the 3th and 4th ones were written so that was a good suspense time. You won't have to since they are all still currently on the market. There is no 'entire name' for this series, just the names of each book. Book 1: Thorn in My Heart. Book 2: Fair is the Rose. Book 3: Whence Came a Prince. Book 4: Grace in Thine Eyes.
I am currently reading another series called 'The Alaskan Quest Series'. by tracie Peterson. Its a love novel that takes place in the Alaskan wilderness. I am still currently in the first book of the series and so far it is very good but I can't tell you if it will remain good until I finish the series. I am only half way through this book so far and it is very good so far. The three novels in this series are: Book 1 - Summer of the Midnight Sun. Book 2 - Under the Northern Lights. Book 3 - Whispers of Winter. Its the story about a brother and sister named Leah and Jacob Barriner and the arrival of an unexpected man who spurned her 10 years earlier named Jayce Kincaid.
You can find all these series in Barnes and Noble Book Stores.

Try Shogun, by James Clavell. It isn't a series, but qualifies at over a thousand pages (Clavell writes long books). While very fantastic, it is historically accurate enough. The characters are loosely based on real people and real events. It isn't a 'how it happened' book, but a 'how it might have happened.'
Shogun is the basis for all the 'east meets west' movies, and countless authors have leaned on this classic. Tons of romance, court intrigue, action, the whole ball of wax, and enough attention to detail that you feel like you learned something. Clavell counts as a romance/adventure writer, his books are deep and thorough, and always a joy. and you find new things to appreciate, every time you read it. There is so much to find, you can't really get it all on the first time.
If you find you like Clavell, try Noble House or Tai Pan. Both of those are even heavier on the romance (if that is possible) but, again, there is enough plot, detail, and intrigue that most people don't want to call him a 'romance' writer, even though he is.

A lot of people kept telling me A Great And Terrible Beauty was good, but I read it and thought it was boring. I don't know if you'll enjoy it, but you should read a summary of it somewhere.... I'm not too helpful but the book has a sequel to it called Rebel Angels. You should google it, because I'm bing way too vauge. sorry.
