wondering if there are any common front end problems in Jeep cherokees, its a 99. Once we hit 50 the car will shake a little until we hit 60 then its normally fine.... but if we hit a bump before then or turn a little then the car shakes really bad, like were driving through tons of pot holes. only way to stop the shaking is to slow down or stop. Was wondering if anyone had a diagnosis before we took it in, just to see how much you think it will cost. Thanks!

Don't guess. Pay the $50 for a complete inspection. They'll put that money to any repairs it might need. Sears or any honest tire shop can do it.

Sounds like the front driving tie rods and ball joints and idle arm. Might need 2 tires on the front... Wheel bearings could also cause the shake at 50.. If what I say the the front end is worn out an estimate bill should be between $700-1000... If you have a 4WD could be in the front drive... Or tranfer box on the tranny...

If you look under the front of your Jeep you'll see what looks like a shock absorber mounted horizontally to the steering components. It's called a steering damper and it's purpose is to prevent the steering from getting loose and acting crazy like you describe. They wear out fast on a Cherokee. If you were to unbolt it and compress it by hand you would discover that it no longer acts as a shock. A new one costs around $30 from most auto parts stores.

Take it to an alignment shop and have them check it out. It is probably a worn suspension component. It could also be an out of balance tire.

Could be an out of balance tire or weak shocks or a bit of both. If tires are wearing even then alignment should be OK.
