This quickest solution to getting a more balanced government is for more voters to actually participate in the political primaries. Currently, most who vote in the primaries are party idealogues which tend to be on the far right or left. By the time general elections are held, the candidates have already been chosen by these idealogues. If the much larger numbers of moderates of each party actually participated and voted in the primaries, we would have much better government less beholden to the party "base"

What do you think?

Very true. Also, to much is made of Presidential election, and not enough on congress. Congress has all the real power. The President has very little actual power in our government. Congress controls all Expenditures, Laws, Wars, Etc. The president can't do any of this.

That is a great idea. On the other hand if only 50% of our people even bother to vote in the general elections, how do you think we can make them vote in the primaries? I am beginning to think those who support the left and right are the only ones voting at all. If not, where are the moderate candidates?

What would you know about moderate? I have seen your answers and you make Stalin look moderate.

And get a clue, when the moderates show up in 08, the socialists are going to be dumped, and you will once again be sitting here on Y!A spewing your hate.

Another solution maybe in the future would be to change the election system so that the entire eligible population will be entitled to what we call one-person-one-vote and elect the president or the chief executive directly!

You bring a good point...Sometimes I think it may be better if we were to have a few Presidents with different responsibilities. Well, lets look at the Supreme Court, how many sit on the bench...9. How do they make decisions? Food for thought.

tell your members of parliament what you said here-and how fed up you are with ideologues cause so is the rest of the world. the last thing the planet needs is gun-totin' religious fruitcakes, whether your way or esp the Middle East. get religion out of politics, and politics out of the greed of millionaries who don't care about you, just their investments in third world countries.

It goes beyond just voting. In order to get those elected to represent us to do what we want them to do we have to tell them what we want. If we don't contact them they will do what they want and what the very vocal lobbyists want. If that is all they hear what are they to do? Nag them if necessary.
