whoa! first of all you need to chill out. whatever health issues you've had, im positive stress isn't making you any better.
relax by having a hot bath or listening to music.
then, take out a notebook or just a piece of paper.
write at the top:
Things I Need For College =)
then think about a day in the life of a typical college student.
whilst your at it, why not give him/her a name. lets call him percy.
as your thinking of percys routine, think of all the equipment he will need in order to fulfill it.

im pretty sure when you arrive there you'll find you didn't actually need to be as prepared as you thought, and your new teachers will give you advice on what books to buy etc.
good luck and i hope you enjoy it!

Given all that has been going on in your life, you would probably be unprepared for a walk around the block right now, let alone starting college. Just don't beat yourself up about it - this is perfectly understandable. Usually the best thing you can do under the circumstances is just to take one step at a time and get through it. You are probably better-prepared than you think.

A few suggestions: Don't rely on your memory as you usually would, because in a month or two you won't remember anything that anyone told you now. Make sure you write everything down - take good notes in class and, if you haven't yet gone through orientation, even if it makes you look a little geeky, take notes there. You can always look back over the notes later on as needed, but you won't be able to bring things to mind if you don't write them down.

Follow directions. When someone tells you to go somewhere and sign up for something, don't think of a better way to handle it, like you might normally do it. Just follow the directions, because your mind is not working properly right now and your alternatives may not make much sense.

Find a routine and stick to it. You may need to write this down too, but plan all the things you really need to do and put them at specific parts of the day. You need to keep your health up, so schedule in things like meals, exercise, and sleep. For studying, don't leave yourself huge blocks of time for studying and expect to use them effectively - you will be distracted. Put little pockets of time in throughout the day for studying - 15 minutes here, at most 30 minutes there. Try to keep as organized as possible; it really helps to keep you moving forward when you are feeling like this.

Find a place to go on campus when you are upset. I had two - the music library, where I went to listen to a specific piece of music which would calm me down (you could put such a piece on your iPod and carry it with you), and a particular fountain, which was soothing and fairly secluded.

Realize that what has happened has been the simultaneous occurrence of several big, stressful events at once. It isn't you; just about anyone would have trouble handling death, illness, and the beginning of college at once. You will get past this and do fine.

I come from a city with an extremely aggressive college gadget. dealing with their extreme college from freshman - junior year became very troublesome. Then I moved to a neighboring city for senior year, and commenced of their college gadget. i became taking Honors and AP training, yet i chanced on that i became spending just about no time at nighttime for homework. classification looked infantile and yet each physique around me became complaining with reference to the workload. Now i'm at a stable college and an analogous component is going on; different rookies are comletely overwhelmed collectively as i hit upon the workload conceivable. It extremely supplies me appreciation for the faculty gadget in my unique city. So i assume, yeah, extreme faculties can the two prepare little ones for the artwork- and courseload that school is going to hand them, or they are able to coast for the duration of the minimum standards the DOE places on them... i do no longer understand if that somewhat responded your question, yet I do trust what you notice.

What you are feeling is what every other Freshman is feeling. Take a deep breath. No one expects you to be totally prepared. There will be people there to help you.
