Do you need to read the books (Vampire Chronicles ) in order, or can I start from any place. So, do I start with "Interview with a Vampire" or can I start in the middle of the series. And which book was your favorite? Thank you in advance!

I would suggest you start with 'Interview.' Only to get to know the main characters at least. Afterwards, you should be able to pick up any, though in order will help develop the characters. In 'Interview,' the story is from Louis' view point, the remaining ones are mostly from Lestat's view point. Seeing how Louis viewed Lestat might make it a bit more thought provoking once you see how Lestat views himself. (once you're read the books you'll see what I mean..LOL!)

For me, the series became 'out there' once Ms Rice left Lestat behind and offered the stories of others. One in particular I kind of went.."uh.." at, but I won't say which. Hopefully you will discover it on your own..and that's the fun in the journey!

I didn't read an Interview with a vampire because I didn't have it to be honest. lol My mom had bought a few from a used book store and I just started with the next in line. You don't need to read the first one because in The Vampire Lestat he explains a lot about how he didn't agree with Luis which is the first book. She explains a lot of back story in each book so even if you miss one she will back pedal and clue you in on the important things.
My favorite was Merrick and Memnoch the Devil. Memnoch the devil has really interesting ideas about what god and hell could really be. I thought she did an excellent job with it.
I am reading Christ the lord: Out of Egypt right now and it is pretty good so was the Mayfair witches.
She also wrote a three book series about a girl named Beauty and it is an erotica. I don't know if you are interested.

Read "Interview With A Vampire" first- and then go on from there. If you read the books out of order, you won't *get* the whole series. My favorite was "Interview With A Vampire"

You don't have to read ALL of them in order, just the Lestat books. You can read Memnoch the Devil at any point after the rest of the Lestat books, though, since its a bit farther off the general story line. The rest are mostly about specific individuals, so they mix up pretty well without much confusion. My personal favorites are Interview and The Vampire Lestat.

I would read them in order. Interview was my fav of the vampire books. But the best of her books I thought was The Witching Hour.

I think it is best to read them in order, but it is not absolutely necessary. "Interview" just gives you more of a basic understanding of the characters BEFORE you move on to read more about Lestadt, etc. I like all of them until I got to Queen of the Damned--it just got TOO "out there" for me.
