I think there may be some other aspects to consider. If the area you live in has a higher percentage of African Americans than caucasians, you'll see more of them working because there are more of them around. Also, some of the jobs you refer to, the mall, retail, entry level positions...often go to the person willing to do them or to work for the lowest salary. It is sad to say, but many Americans have an innate sense of entitlement and are not always willing to go through the entry level positions to get to the mid-leve jobs with the better pay. Finally, there is more to getting a job than your GPA. Yes, your degree will carry some weight. But other issues are even more imporatant in a field where everyone has a four or six year degree. How much pervious expereince do you have..including internships, volunteer work and community services? What other activities did you take part in at school? When you went to the interview, how well prepared were you? Going in with some knowledge of the company, it's policies and long term goals can make all the differenct in the job market. And yes, there are some companies that use race as a consideration, especially if the demographinc that particular company or service targets is geared towards one group over another. Anyone speaking two languages is a plus, especially if you live in an area with a large immagrant population or one that does business with a lot of foreign companies. Affirmative Action has been a major plus for this country. In some areas it probably is not needed as it was 20 years ago, while in other locations and even career fields, it certainly still applies. The best way to garuntee you get a job is to be educated, prepared and make your self as attractive an individual as you can. Many minority groups have understood that to compete, they had to be more than the others in the field, so they put forward tremendous amounts of effort. It has raised the bar for everyone..so step up.

Get out while you still have any property value left. You can't safely walk from your car to a grocery store or mall in that city without an armed body guard. It has the highest crack cocaine use in the nation. That city government is more corrupt that South Africa's. It has the highest per-capita city council pay, and the highest property taxes around to support the Black Mafia (the city workers union) which controls the government. That's why black city workers get extremely high paying jobs, which equal higher union dues. I predict property values there will decline sharply. No one in their right mind would move there and buy a house in the city. No one.

Unless Atlanta has changed a whole lot in the last 10 years, I find it difficult to buy your perception. I'm a reasonably conservative white male, by the way.
When I was down there, I saw no blacks at Augusta National. The ritzy suburbs and city sections were all white. The downtown white-collar jobs looked pretty lily-white to me.
I'm sure your perception has some basis, but it seems a bit myopic to me.

Turn poison to medicine. Use their slogans for you benefit.
If you are intellectually free, do what I did when I was facing the San Diego good-old boy network in my field. I got into sgi-usa and within one year, I had all the best jobs in my field.
The next best thing to do is to start listening to people without judging what they are saying. Try to see the subject from their perspective. They will automatically regard you as their ally. Allies get preferential treatment. http://www.erhardsculpt.net has a nice beginners guide to the concept of multi-perspective listening.

What to do? GET A ROPE! Seriously, it sounds like you are in a no-win scenario in a no-win area... Evacuate. Eject. Bail. MOVE. After all, if you were to find that you had somehow stepped into a big, steaming pile of DOG-CRAP, you DO retain the good sense to step back OUT... DON'T YOU?!?!?!
