No, Tom I understand what I am asking. This girl made a statement that homophobia was created by radical homossexuals. The answer is very clear. I know what she meant.

I'm patronizing this girl. I'm being "radical". This question was meant to make fun of her theory.

The word first appeared in print in an article written for the American Time magazine, 31st October edition. [8] It was used by clinical psychologist George Weinberg, who claims to have first thought of it while speaking at a homophile group in 1965, and was popularized by his book Society and the Healthy Homosexual in 1971. When asked about the meaning of the word in a 2002 interview, he said:

"Homophobia is just that: a phobia. A morbid and irrational dread which prompts irrational behavior flight or the desire to destroy the stimulus for the phobia and anything reminiscent of it."[9]

The "radical" gay people creation theory was apparently first floated by the Concerned Women for America, an anti-gay group.

We didn't do it. The APA acnowledges the term as legitimate.

I am not sure I understand your question and based on the conversation, I am not sure if you really understand what you are asking.

Homophobia is the inherently fear of gay people without a justifiable reason. It is not a term created by "radical" gay people as you referred. Radical is a very subjective term and based on your dialogue, it sounds like said person has some growing to do. Frankly so do you and the rest of us!

Homophobia is a part of what we all have to live with on a daily basis. It comes in many forms. Sometimes it is in your face and others it is disguised as someone's unfounded discomfort around gay folks. How we each deal with homophobia is different. I remain optimistic that society's homophobia and other negative attitudes are on the decline and hopefully one day it will be a historical term.

As far as I can see, Homophobia was created by a Jewish man who had no business writing anything...his rants in Leviticus are preposterous, yet the only one any Christian takes seriously is the bit about Men not laying with men as they do with women...whatever the hell that means! Christians have taken this silly man's writings (specifically this one, for Christians wear Poly/cotton blends, work on Sundays, eat pork, eat lobster, shrimp, and crab, have sex with their wives anytime they want (forbidden by the same old idiot)...and the ramblings serve what purpose???? Perhaps to indicate that Gay sex is infinantly more gratifying than straight sex? (Must be, otherwise, there would be no need for a taboo).

I really believe it was created by a group that hates homosexuals, the term Homophobia, was probably created by homosexuals, to defend themselves.

I'd really want to understand your definition of radical in that case.

*Edit: Oh come now Mac Hine, Kathi was being frank there. If you really read her response, she perhaps is confused between activism and pacificism. Not her fault entirely though, at least she's trying to understand.

**Edit: My bad, Mac Hine, I was only trying to look at the upside in her answer :-(

***Edit: Sigh, Mac Hine! As I said, my bad, my worst bad ever :">

What else would you call an unreasoning fear and hatred of LGBT people? When that sort of things happens to ethnic people it's called racism. So of course there needed to be a term that encompassed those sets of behaviors towards people who are perceived as sexually "different".

So defending yourself creates hatred? Very sad.

2007-08-11 05:18:36 · answer #8 · answered by merrybodner 6 · 2 0

Not in the slightest! Why would LGBT create something that is so detrimental to their cause?

2007-08-11 05:20:11 · answer #9 · answered by Dominic 4 · 1 0

yes that may be so. most heterosexual people would be perfectly willing to just ignore homosexual behaviours. i think what is being called 'homophobia' is more of a 'i-dont-want-it-in-my-face-and-i-hate-the-'parades'-obia......'
