DON'T depend on advice from anonymous people on a website to make legal decisions. Most of the responses I have seen here are wrong, incomplete or based on incomplete information.

DO talk with an attorney in your area. If you are indigent, many will help you with this for free. Call your local legal services office to see if you qualify. If they cannot help you themselves, they ought to be able to refer to you an attorney who can.

Talk to an Alabama attorney. However, If the parents do not take responibility, and you are sued by the hospital, then you may be able to sue the parents for "unjust enrichment," "resitution," or some other legal theory.

Sheree, I know little of Alabama or it's laws, but I DO know that you did what was, in even MY opinion, morally right, and did what was needed to get the "job done" at the time. I concur and compliment you. As for your "legal" problem: Adopt her and raise her as YOURS, since her "blood" parents seem to have little use for her! Enough... In seriousness and sincerity, Sheree, if you truly need legal assist, "Google" the AMERICAN BAR ASSOCIATION website; THEY should have a Legal Forum which can aid you. Good Fortune, Sheree...

well you can make an appt for a free consultation with a local atty cause I feel like theres more there than you've posted in your question. Like how responsible were you for her medical bills? and the hospital might be in trouble for allowing you to take the child in the first place if you weren't her legal guardian because if you weren't then they shouldn't have allowed you to sign for it, but if you claimed to be then you have problems there. You can always take them to court and make the court pay.

You only acted as a care-taker and your responsibility or obligations as such are limited!
