First of all, you need for each of your both betta's at LEAST a 2.5 gallon tank with heater & filter, and a live plant
An absolute no no is female/male or male/male
However, you can put up to 5 bettas and a couple of cory cats (bottomfeeder) in a 10 gallon tank, with a minimum of 3 females, that they are able to choose the so called peckingorder, if you have only 2 in there, once will dominate the other one
Also a lot of live plants for the 10 gallon
The only time you can put female/male together is for breeding and then only if they are well conditioned
Hope that helps
Good luck

Short and simple- male bettas do not get along. Female and male bettas only get along during breeding season. Females can be kept in a community tank with each other.
To tell them apart: Males usually have longer fins and flare their gills a lot, but when a male is young the fin thing sorta falls flat. Females have a little white dot under near their belly called an egg spot. Females also have short fins (although some fin types for males are short) Hope that helps!

Male Bettas have long flowing, or big tail fins. They are brightly coloured and are larger than the females. The females have much less ornate fins & tails, and are much more similar in shape & fin size to a gourami - taking into account that a gourami is a larger fish than a betta.
The things you are describing sticking out of your betta is your fish "flaring". This is a hostile display, and means that at any provocation, the fish will attack.
Two male bettas CANNOT be kept together - ever!
Females can be kept in groups, and will often get along. Make sure they have plenty of space though - if they're cramped they also can fight. Sometimes too, you just get an aggressive female who will attack the others regardless of space.
You can not keep a male betta with a female. He will harass her and eventually kill her. In very large tanks you can sometimes get away with keeping one male with a group of females, as this stops him focussing all of his aggression on one female, but it is still risky, and even if your tank is large, he may still kill one or more of them.
The best rule for male bettas, is one betta per tank. You can put other fish like corydoras for example, or apple (mystery) snails - I have snails in my tank with no problems, but any other type of fish are a risk. Some male bettas are ok with other fish of different species, but some aren't. Generally, you need to keep the tank free of other fish that are brightly coloured, have long fins, that are nippy & will bite your betta, and fish that swim near the top of the tank where your betta spends most of his time - as this will provoke him into action.
I think perhaps you need to buy yourself another tank, and separate your fish before something horrible happens!
Don't be afraid to ask the staff at your aquarium shop before buying fish. Give them as much info as you can when asking their advice. If they don't know, go somewhere else. There are also loads of websites contributed on by fish lovers everywhere which can give you great advice & the advantage of learning from other people's mistakes. Do some research on bettas - there is lots of info out there!

The males are very bright and colorful. The females do have a bit of color to them but ist is washed out and their fins are not as long as the males.
The males will fight to the death or claim a territory. I don't recommend putting them together in a bowl. You may have a bit of luck in an aquarium, as long as it doesn't have much of a current.
Bettas are air breathers, that is to say that they don't get thier oxygen from the water through their gills like other fish. They come to the top and suck it in. Males will also make bubble nests on the top of the water to put the eggs into when their mate lays them. Then they are the one who tends for them.
You probably have 2 males. The male will "dance" for the female, but won't actually hurt her, and will squeeze her with his body. Another male will be shredded and his fins will grow back if he survives, but you should add a product called stress coat to aid the healing process.
Good luck.

No you can not put beta fish together male or female the male beta has long fins and are very loud colored the female has short fins and is usually brownish in color not to be confused with the male in this form but he will be colored with blue or red tones they are known as rumble or Chinese fighting fish for a reason.......the flaring of his gills is a fighting sign when matting in captivity the male and female are kept separate between glass till the male builds a bubble nest and then they are put together to lay eggs which the Male will bang in to the female slamming her around to get her to release her eggs he will collect them and place them in the nest and repeat the proses till she as released all of her eggs or dead (it happens sometimes do to the violent breeding) putting to males together will usually result in the death of one or both of them. in less they are in a large aquarium with lots of cover like pants and rocks to hide in and stay away from each other and even then they still may find one another and fight. a good book to get about Betta's is called Betta's in Color by w.l.whitern.........

The Male Beta fish are big , colourful and beautiful the female is small and lighter. When you put two males they tend to fight, but its fine to put a male with a female.

No beta fish do not get along. Try putting a mirror in front of one so it sees its reflection. It will puff up which is to try and scare the other fish. They will kill each other.

ok, the male beta's have long beautiful tails and are prettier. the females have much shorter tails and are less agressive. I dont suggest putting two males together, they would probably end up killing each other. as for the females Im not sure if they can go together.

You shouldn't put 2 males together. They will fight eachother until one dies. You can tell the difference....a male betta has long flowing fins. Males are alot more prettier than females. A female betta does not have fins that are pretty...they are alot shorter. If you put females together they have to be put in groups of 3 or more. I hope that helps.
