I take your point Crispy but there has been absolutely no news to comment on. Natasha's disappearance is, yet again, one of a long line of teenage girls who vanished on their way home. I imagine that her parents are devastated and they certainly have my total sympathy. It must be absolutely mind numbing for them.
The McCanns have, of course, made it impossible for Madeleine's disappearance not to be a major talking point. Frankly, poor little Madeleine is also one of a long line of young children who have disappeared. Natasha's parents on the other hand have possibly had no other option but to leave it to the police. Perhaps they are too grief stricken to parade themselves before the Press.

well we've had quite a lot of coverage of missing Natasha (honestly not as much as the McCanns) but that could have something to do with me living in Essex.
I also believe that the family are responsible for all the Madeline column inches etc, they got themselves a publicist, set up a website a trust fund etc etc and this was within, probably, around a week of the child being missing. unfortunately the parents wanted this media circus and now they're wanting there privacy, I just don't understand it. and if the poor child is dead what are the parents going to do, I hope that the money does go to the good causes and not to pay off their debts, (not that they will have any because they're dipping in the fund, as that is what it was for)
my heart goes out to the Coombs family right now, god bless them. I doubt that there will be a book of condolence as the parents have been quite private over this, they have done radio appeals and I think they were on the news but that is it.

The McCanns have brought all the publicity on themselves Crispy. I think the fact that Madeline was so young and "snatched" from a foreign country seems to make the story more popular, people are intrigued by it as it's turning into a giant game of Cluedo.
I had not heard anything about Natasha Coombes (I live abroad), how awful that another British teenager has been murdered. I feel so much for her family, having been through something similar myself, although with a parent.
I admit to answering quite a few McCann questions, but my interest is purely for justice for an innocent child.

We should all feel sorry for these two families, but your question has a very simple and practical answer.
The McCanns wanted to find their daughter, so made it a high profile matter, to ensure it received high media coverage. They were successful, and your comment shows just successful they were in achieving that media coverage, both at home and abroad.
In the case of Natasha lost after a night out in Ipswich, there was no high profile "advertising campaign" so the media did not give her disappearance as much attention as the instance in Portugal. I think that is regrettable, but that is how the media works, and the McCanns were able to use it to their benefit.
Regrettably, both families have lost a loved one, and that is a more important issue than griping about who got the most attention.

Unfortunatly it wasn't made high profile enough. The parents really should have taken a page out of the McCann book and created more publicity on the matter. I only heard about her (on YA) 3 days ago...wouldn't have had any idea otherwise. the McCanns have made a high profile for Maddie and with the constant twisting and turning of the case more people want to theorise about what happened. I hope it is not Natashas body they found and that she is alive somewhere.

i for one am very interested in the McCann case WHY?
Because i want to see gerry and kate rot for what they have done and in my opinion the reason the McCanns are getting so much attention is because of the suspision around the case there was no suspisious surcumstances with natasha coombs i feel very sorry for her family for losing there daughter through no fault of there own ... but i stay glued to the mccann story i hope madeline is safe although i dont think she is but i hope the truth comes out about her parents they will return to the uk soon very soon when more fingers are pointed at them they will feel the heat and run away from it all

Obviously the McCanns have caused this to be a high profile case but tens of thousands of teenagers go missing every year. Sadly this ended tragically. There is no reason for a 4 year old to go missing so it obviously gets a higher profile.

Little girls like Maddie will always get more publicity than teenagers such as Natasha, it's a fact of life.
I suppose people will always hope that with someone of Natasha's age, that she had run off with a secret boyfriend.
No such hope with Maddie.
Nevertheless it is a dreadful thing to happen to anyone and my thoughts are with her family who must be going through hell right now.
I hope the murderous cowardly creep who committed this crime receives proper punishment both here and in hell.
