There is no reason for Americans to worry about whether or not the world hates them. But, there is also no reason for Americans to give the world a reason to hate us. I believe most of the world knows far more good comes out of the USA than bad.
Nobody's perfect. I'm sure the rest of the world knows that as well.

It seems more like a very ignorant position to take. Why would one assume that because we are currently the worlds most powerful nation we will remain that way? The US is a couple hundred years old. It is not as if we have been a world superpower for 500 years and have a proven track record. It seems rather ignorant to take the position that it does not matter if we are hated because we are bigger, meaner and better.

We might hold more power than any other nation. But we don't hold more power than all the world combined. People like you seem to think it's of no consequence if the rest of the world hates us. That shows just how ignorant you are. You had better care. Or it could cause the downfall of our country. And yes the rest of the world IS worried that we hate them, which is the main reason they hate us.

The problem with both a "do they hate us?" attitude AND a "they can go to hell" attitude is that BOTH OF THEM focus more on the rest of the world than on taking care of our own business! True power is striving toward excellence on the assumption that others will probably approve, but not really worrying about the others either way, except in how our cooperation with other nations helps build our own excellence.

Do you seriously think we could hold our own against every other nuclear power in the world if they decided to rise up against us? Why is it necessary for anyone to hate anyone else?
Americans are sought out as targets. It is sort of the satisfaction thing of bringing down the biggest, baddest kid on the block. It is sort of like when the schoolyard bully is taken out by a wimpy little kid who had had enough and finally lost his cool. The kids cheer because the wimp did what everyone was wanting to do but were afraid to do.
Taking down a weakling (Like Saddam) is no heroic act. Little David taking down Goliath is a great feat.

perhaps we would be in less of a mess in Iraq if we had shown even the tiniest respect to the views of other countries ...
the U.S. had the support of most of the world after 911, which was exemplified with the support for going specifically after the Taliban in Afganistan... but then the Bush administration thumbed its nose at most countries including our allies, for this ill-conceived, poorly executed, falsely justified attack on Iraq. perhaps major countries would now be more supportive of us (other than China financing this by buying our debt, and Tony Blair playing manservant)
If the "war" on terrorism is indeed global, the fight would likely be more successful if the countries cooperated with us willingly and by choice and perhaps there would be fewer than record numbers joining the taliban today.
....or are you planning to assimilate the world?...sometimes resistance is not futile

Yes it is a very stupid position to take when you hold more power than any other nation.
But our current administration is not led by the brightest.
I know what you meant, but I couldn't help but take advantage of your admission, unintended as it was.

Yes they should be worried. The world may be anti-American today but America may just become anti-European tomorrow.
And when that happens....look out Europe. I say America should isolate itself now!!! Point our nukes at everyone - and tell the world about it - increase our defense spending 3 times to I trillion dollars a year. Kick the UN out of America...leave NATO, the IMF, and the World bank. Stop all technology transfers with other nations including Britain. Stop all aid to foreign countries. Stop patrolling the sea lanes and let the world have at it.
Oh yeah....start nuking countries that threaten us. No questions....just nuke em.

Another example of someone hating an entire nation over the acts of a few individuals they see in the news.
