America can make whatever claims it wants to, and as the biggest, richest kid on the block, it will probably get its way. However, it has lost the moral high ground in its actions since 9/11 and is becoming a model for an authoritarian state. This is a country that supports torture and the indefinite detention of people without laying any charges. It is a country that is taking away privacy rights of its own citizens. It is passing laws that take away the right to dissent about government policy under the claim that to do so is giving aid and comfort to the "enemy," whoever the enemy happens to be at any given time. It invades countries that pose no threat to it.

America is acting increasingly like the old Soviet Union, touting high principles of freedom while oppressing its own citizens and those of other countries.

America has lost the right to claim any moral superiority over anyone, anywhere.

We overthrew the main powerful government as quickly as we broke off from the British Empire. we've the main powerful protection stress interior the international and would take over any u . s . we want - even the international if we so % to accomplish that. funds, ability, and appreciate. nevertheless we are dropping this now and seem the place we are ending up. funds is sweet, yet no longer what it would desire to be. ability is slowly decaying far off from our war interior, the two political events constantly arguing and underminding, no longer paying interest to genuine threats or our real enemies. the honor has went down for no longer having a real chief in an prolonged time. we are slowly turning out to be dwindled out. the main powerful u . s . is falling interior itself, to no longer say that's all interior, besides the shown fact that it actually does no longer help as quickly as we argue with one yet another and start up dropping concentration of the genuine threats that don't problem if there is sympathy or no longer in the direction of them.

Nuclear weapons. A big army. More spending power. Shareholders. Investments. You annoy America you face financial ruin and your country being a smoking crater. This isn't morality, it's whoever has the biggest gun is the most moral, and the saviour of whatever things they happen to stand for. The soviets thought they were the saviours of the workers and they were anything but.

I'm n ot really sure where I am on Yahoo. But I am American and I don't believe that we have moral superiority over the rest of the world and I believe that we should have not interfered many times in history when we have. But alot of people that believe we have done the right things in history, claim that America has superiority because of the Monroe Doctrine, which is basically a piece of paper stating a mans idea that we have the right to do what we please.

America does not claim that although it may appear that way to many countries; particularly when the US issues a list of countries that violate human rights. Naturally, some countries object accusing the US of "moral superiority."

I believe that the Founding Father's "Declaration of Independence" (a legacy of the English Magna Carta) established a strong foundation for nationhood that guarantees individual liberties and freedom.

At times, even US Presidents 'appear' to have forgotten some of these liberties during their presidency; but in addition to the 1776 Charter, there are also other American institutions in place to ensure the rights of the citizens are not violated - this is paramount to preserving the principles laid down in the Charter. And Americans have made it work to better their society in all aspects of their lives. Not many countries in the world practise the kind of democracy as that of America or western Europe; neither do they enjoy the kind of liberties that North Americans and western Europeans do.

American foreign policy is often viewed as arrogant, aggressive even imperialistic. That's because America sees itself as a nation that's 'obligated' to defend the rights of mankind in the world especially when a people is oppressed. And sometimes America acts militarily to right the wrong just like in Iraq.

America does not believe it is "morally superior" because they are the world's #1 superpower; rather it is because they believe they have a better system of governance - one that protects the rights of the citizen rather than trample and violate it.

Read two books recently. both about the second world war, one by an an american and the other from the Imperial war museum. Even had the same photos but lots of different interpretations. Americans can claim moral superiority if they wish, if they think that the fact that they can destroy the rest of the world at will makes them superior, let them at it

We don't! Look at the prize we have in the White House at the moment! He has involved us in an illegal war, and embarrassed us in front of the world every time he opens his mouth!
Don't judge all of us, by his behavior!
He'll be gone soon enough, and we can begin to repair the damage, and regain our pride!
