I heard soaking shaving razor in vodka does those kinds of wonders. I'm wondering if rubbing alcohol does the same, or does it like make the razor corrode/rust faster? I've seen that alcohol volumes for vodka is in the 35-50% range, and rubbing alcohols in 70-95% range. What difference would it make to soak the razor in higher volume of alcohol compared to lower?

Would whiskey work as effectively as vodka since they seem to have similar alcohol volumes?

I don't think I'd soak in alcohol BEFORE I use it. I think you should do it AFTER each use and rinse it just before you use it. Alcohol will BURN if you accidentally cut yourself while shaving. Rubbing alcohol and vodka are two different types of alcohol, and often, rubbing alcohol has methanol added - which can KILL you if taken internally. So, stick with putting your razor in vodka - it may be more expensive but it's certainly better for your health.

I think it would be fine to rinse off the razor in rubbing alcohol before use. I don't imagine soaking is necessary - especially in vodka.

If you're the only one using the blade then don't worry about any of this. Alcohol won't keep a blade sharp. Blades are cheap.

No problem with rusting I feel. It is a better disinfectant. Give it a try and tell me your experience.
