It doesn't follow any of the other final fantasys
12 is totally different storyline so new characters and everything.
New fighting style, new battle system and new layout. If you are a purist like me then you won't like it as much but if you are broad minded then I would give it a go

The last one is FFXII. But the one you are refering to(which has Tidus and Yuna to it), is FFX-2. The game has many endings and the good one sees Yuna and Tidus reunited. Wakka is married to Lulu and they have a child at the end. Rikku is still there.

Every Final Fantasy has different characters (with the exception of FFx and FFx2 (FFx2 has Rikku and Yuna returning again and if you do 100% complete, you get to see Tidus at the end of the game)

The newest Final Fantasy, FFXII, has a whole new cast, just like almost all previous FF games. You are thinking of FFX-2, the sequel to FFX.
FFXII is a great game. It has a new battle system, no more random encounters! You can see all enemies on the screen, and choose to flee or fight. The graphics are great. There is a gambit system that will automatically do commands, such as Ally HP < 50% - Cura. I recommend checking it out, it's lots of fun.
