It depends upon your nationality.
Switzerland is not a member of Schengen yet, so until they implement the Schengen system in 2008 you'll likely need a visa in order to go to Switzerland.
They wave the obligation to get a visa to citizens of certain countries who hold multiple Schengen visa though. So please give your nationality if you want a clear answer!

firstly, that might depend on your nationality.
Switzerland is not included in the schengen zone yet although it was was voted in favor in public referendum held last year in Switzerland. Swiss government aims to implement it by 11/2008. However, that is not definite yet.
If you travel by car, it is possible that the border police not ask you a passport. you might not look suspicious and the police depending on your license plate might believe that you are citizen of EU member country. however, is does not mean that it is legal.
however, if you travel by plane they definitely ask your passport. and they will not accept your schengen valid. therefore, check the visa regime of Switzerland and apply for a visa if necessary.

According to this site:
http://www.eurovisa.info/SchengenCountries.htm
An official Schengen Visa site, Switzerland is not included.
The checks at the border do not always include a visa check, but better ask before traveling whether you need a visa.
If you need one it will be difficult to obtain one if caught entering illegally.
