I have a 1991 Lexus LS 400. I am wanting to change my brakes out. Unfortunately, all of my lug nuts are the usual ones you see except for one. This lug nut is rounded on the outside and has what appears to be a place to put some sort of attachment on middle of the nut to help remove it. Does anyone know the specific peice or name of the part that I am going to need to remove this nut. Thanks.

Jeep Locking Lug Nuts

You car has a locking lug nut. Some after market companies and maybe some dealerships will have a tool that you will need to remove the lug nut. Locking lug nuts are used to keep would be theives from stealing your tires and rims. I would recommed taking the car to a tire shop and asking if they have the proper tool to remove the lug nut. If they do then perhaps it would be beneficial to purchase one in case you ever have a flat tire. If you are not able to purchase the tool from them, they should definately be able to tell you where to purchase one. If there are no tire shops nearby, then I would call a parts store (i.e. Autozone or Advance Auto Parts) near you. One last thing you could try is looking on ebay for a picture of the locking lug nut that you have, and perhaps that will lead you to a manufactuer for a key. Hope this helps, and good luck.

This is an anti-theft measure. Did you buy the car new? If so, the special lug adapter should have come with the vehicle. If you bought the wheels after you bought the car, again the item should have come with the purchase. Check your glove box or trunk. If all else fails, check with Lexus or the wheel manufacturer. Don't wait too long, if you get a flat tire without this device, you will be screwed. Good luck!

Insert the key for the fancy locking lug nut, and it will come off. There is no universal key that fits all, or that would defeat the whole purpose of it. Look in the glove box, with your jack and the other tools, you will probably find it.

If no luck, try the dealer, but they will probably not be able to help unless it's something they would have in stock..

You have a locking lug nut. check your glove box to see if you see a funky looking socket type thingy...this is the key.... then you use that to unlock the lug.

it locks so some idiot doesn't steal your wheels.

If you can't find the actual key, check your purchase paperwork. I know that my paperwork included a little slip that had the key code on it and a replacement key could be ordered. If you have alloy wheels and they are worth keeping, don't bust off the nut...I work in a theft unit of an insurance company handling recoveries of stolen veh....most recoveries come back without wheels and tires...save yourself the hassle and keep your wheels protected if worth it. Find the key or have the dealer order you a new one!!!!

it depends on the type of wheel .. i have lugs made by gorilla. where hall the lugs take a special key. lugs that are counter sunk in wheels are harder to remove that the one that just stick out where they can put locking pliers or pipe wrench on them. you can't stop a thief you can only delay and delay them to the point tyhey figure it will take to much time to remove .

There is an attachement to unscrew that specific nut. It should have come with the car. All my cars came with it. Its a security measure so people dont steal your wheels. Try a Lexus dealer, they may be able to help.

There's a company, McGuard, that makes these nuts and keys. They supply some companies with their OEM's. I had them on a vehicle and they look identical to the ones pictured in the Lexus link. If you have some time, you might save some hassle, destruction, and bucks.

This was put on there to prevent the wheels from being stolen. It will take a special socket to remove it. It should have came with the car when you bought it. Go to a Toyota dealer and ask them about it. Or a local tire shop.
