We will be driving on a weekend, and will be leaving around 4 or 5 in the morning, so I am not sure if traffic will be that much of an issue.

I made it in 6.5 hours back in 1992 - took I-95 straight through - crossed the GW Bridge, NYC and CT were in excellent shape and I didn't go below 80; I was on a roll. I think I left Baltimore about 2 AM and arrived in Boston at 8:30 AM.

On a Saturday morning, you may still find residual traffic in NYC plus they've increased enforcement along the NJTP and I-95 in CT. Plus, the Mafia may have torn up I-95 between the GW Bridge and New Haven for the umpteenth time and you may be stuck in 10 mile rolling backups through Sicilian country roads.

I made it in 6.5 hours also by taking I-83 to I-81 to I-380 to I-84 to I-90 but I was averaging 100 MPH in most stretches - not a good idea.
