Hey, I'm 15 right now, but I was wondering if there are different laws about age of consent if you are dating someone who has just recently turned 18, compared to a 16 year old dating a 42 year old.

btw, I did choose the age 42 randomly.
secondly, I am just asking bc my boyfriend is turning 18 soon and I am turning 16, so...
also, I am a virgin so saying that I need to stop having sex is inaccurate.

The age of consent varies from state to state. In some states an 18 year old is considered okay dating a 16 year old because there is inly a two year gap in age. In states that set the age of consent below 18, there is usually the added requirement that there be no more than a two year difference in ages. So, yes there would be a legal difference between dating an 18 year old and a 42 year old.

It really varies from state to state. Some states have provisions that allow for an 18 year old to have sex with a 15 or 16 year old.
I don't know about the states, but here in Canada, the age of consent is 14. So a 14 year old can have consentual sex with some one of the age of 14 to 100 without consequense, although there are provisions for people in a position of trust, like teachers and coaches and the like. (Oddly enough, though, you can have sex with a 14 year old, but you are guilty of child pornography if you have a sexual picture of a 14-17 year old?)
I really hope you just arbitrarily chose the number 42 cause legal or not, a 42 year old and a 16 year old together is just not right.

in some states it age 16, most its 18, in Hawaii its 14. I think the age of consent should be decided by the teen and parent, i think 14 is a bit young. 15 or 16 is fine as long as no one gets hurt. its really stupid when one kid gets locked up for being only ONE year older than the other person who did not have a problem. i saw it on TV, a 18 year old got arrested for being with a 17 year old. Both of them committed suicide afterwards. the girl who got arrested killed herself first, then the boy after he heard about it killed himself. see laws like that ruin kids life, especially when no one has a problem, they got caught because her jealous ex-boyfriend called the cops and video taped them or something like that.. I could see if she was like age 20 or above that, but if its a 1-3 year difference, thats pretty messed up. dont you think? since if they are probably going to do it anyways, why ruin someones life over it? 15 years to the door if convicted i think? I think they should just get married first. so whatever age they can marry so yeah. but i wouldn't go kill some one over it. its none of my business

You are too young to be worried about the age of consent. And yes, there a difference between and 16 yr old dating a 18yr old and a 16 yr old dating a 42 yr old. A 42yr old dating a 16yr old is nothing but a SEXUAL PREDATOR!

In some states, it makes it a lesser charge, but in others its the same. Theres a kid doing 10 years in GA because he got oral sex from a 15 yr old.....he was 17 or 18 at the time.

Allow the parent to make that decision.
Most will be very strict and allow those close to their age.
Parents will not wait nine months so that their children become endangered in whatever situation.
It also depends on the culture.
Religion also influences.
Predators also affect other adults and not just those under 18.

It all depends upon your state. Check with you local state web site to find out the age of consent and the laws that apply there.
