Either men or women, not both. Somebody has to stay home with the kids, and if both men & women being drafted, who would be left? Grandma & grandpa?

no, women should not be drafted, to answer the question at hand; but, a draft as a pure draft will not happen anytime soon, because there have always bin ways to so called get out of the draft. read the history books on draft by a subscriptor, and better still, check with "W", or his national guard unit that let him off because he worked on a political camp some where in texas!

YES, women are equal and they've been fighting for that sense the 40s and 50s. In war, they can do just as well as most men so they need to be included in the draft if there is another one.
Brian who answered "in the history of human kind, there has never been a civilization where the elite warriors were women."
Is dead wrong. Israel's IDF are about as elite as they can get and their women have to serve just like the men do and back in history, the ancient Celts had women that fought beside men in battle and they even had an extremely unique style of battle. They all got heavily tattooed and covered their body in wode (not sure on that spelling) which was blue and had hallucinogenic properties that made them crazy as they went into battle totally naked which allowed them many many victories.

First of all get your information straight, only males of eighteen years old, not sixteen years old, have to register. Also, if you will check the congressional record the only politician that has even submitted a bill bringing back the draft is Charles Rangel of New York, a democrat.
Now as to whether women should be drafted. or at least register for the draft, why not.

What they should do (like they did in Vietnam) is allow convicted ciminals to spend there time in the army, rather than behind bars. It would take care of the overcroweded prisons and eliminate the fact that Uncle Sam cant recruit enough "fitting men" to fight. And when there time is up... they are allowed to return to society (not with a clean slate though).
I think that if women complain about needing as much compensation as men and all that stuff... then they have every right to be on the front line with a semi in there hand.

Males age 18 have to register with the selective service, not males age 16. Draft or not, you still have to be 18 to get drafted.
To finally answer your question, why not? Women would be able to relieve a lot of state side and in theater operational support. This would free up more men to send out on operations and front line battles. (not to sound sexist, but it's the military who won't send women to the lines)

Almost alld the answerers have voted in favour. In principle there is no objection provoded the haste of imposing equal liability is extended to all other fields. So many countrieshave had woman as president. It is only now that a woman aspired to the post here. Whether she will be nominated by the party is still doubtful and equally doubtful she would be returned. But nobody talks of a mandatory woman president. Let alone president there are so many other fields where we have not thought of balanced representation for women. Let us be honest and extend equal privileges and then think of equal liabilities to be fair.

I absolutely think so, but I doubt that will happen any time soon.
and to the men saying women shouldn't fight in wars...I'm sure I can take a hell of a lot more than you. More men than women squirm at the sight of blood, women don't let sex get in the way while at war. Also, I completed boot camp more easily than most of the men.
It just depends on the person, not the gender.

there'll be no draft, using fact the guy that includes re-instating the draft is attempting to make a political element - and a very good one. If we as a rustic settle on that we ought to bypass to conflict (as a final motel after international family members and sanctions have did no longer paintings) then honestly everyone desires to step as much as the plate and do their section to assist combat for the conflict. meaning the draft, meaning elevating taxes quite than featuring the invoice to the babies and grandchildren, and meaning shared sacrifice. meaning that if the conflict is so substantial and so serious that we ought to deliver troops that honestly everyone from all sectors of society ought to share interior the soreness, no longer in trouble-free terms the expert soldier. As a instructor, I easily have seen a number of scholars bypass into the protection stress. unavoidably, they choose for one in each and every of two motives: it quite is their in trouble-free terms profession selection, or they bypass into it to get carry of money to bypass to college. It makes me unhappy that their profession selection or their want to bypass to college would finally end up getting them killed beforehand they are 20 years previous! I enjoyed the assumption one vast apple cases letter author proposed - if we ought to bypass to conflict, impose a $2 a gallon gas tax to pay for the conflict. That way, it won't bypass on the country's mastercard and individuals will understand the real value of going to conflict. Then possibly they gained't be so "rah rah" whilst the country's leaders crank up the propaganda gadget in getting us in yet another conflict. possibly if a draft replaced into heavily seen, human beings does no longer help sending troops to a conflict that should not be fought interior the 1st place. That replaced into the purpose of the draft theory made by Charles RangeMF

I've always felt like women have had the better deal in this country. Should we be drafted - yes. Will we be? no.
And - when they finally do get around to drafting women - which will come in time if we don't figure out the peace thing - they won't have women in battle - until the next wave.
