In Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai, Puna, Bangalore, Patna, Ranchi its compulsory.

In Chennai, Hyderabad not compulsory.

See if you can find some videos, TV shows or new articles about what happens to folks who won't wear helmets and get in an accident. Maybe someone could come talk at your school. If kindness and common sense haven't worked it's time to shock them. If wearing a helmet is the law in your area maybe the police need to do a serious crackdown. See if there's a woman's organization in your area called the Pilot Club.They do a lot of good work in this area.

Different rule for different cities/STATES (Depending on political and other considerations prevailing from time to time) . But it's safe to wear in Indian cities where road conditions is not upto International standard and traffic rules are often floated

well you all say it compulsory in these states. but some of them i have been to, never seen this implemented. in Goa i have seen them 4/5 to a scooter, dad kids and mum riding side saddle. with kid on knee
