you require skill to successfully navigate the chancy propositions the other players will throw at you. you need luck to overcome the times when your skill is not sufficient. knowing when to rely on your skill and when to leave things up to chance helps you balance your life, not being too 'hands on' or too lackadaisical.
control indcates influence, and we are all influenced by others, even if that influence consists of ignoring the other. like heavenly bodies, we all exert as force on each other. some are more aware than others are of how to sense and use this force... those are the ones who have good 'luck', read the tea leaves, and are in the right place at the right time. perhaps to them it still seems like 'skill' and not luck, because they do so unknowingly. maybe they deny their skill and chalk it up to karma. either way, they find a way to win at the game of chance and skill we call life.

Is life a game? Win, lose or draw? Not to me. I don't control others, nor am I controlled by them. (Yes, I stop at red lights!but that's a law, not an individual.) To "chance" or "skill"; chance is more the serendipitous in life, & great fun. Some things require "skill," as in decisions & doing the best we can with whatever ability we have. Life is as balanced as the balance we acheive in ourselves.

Both. If one calculates every possibility in the universe, then the outcome is known. Go a head and try to map every single molecules in real time (no one can; maybe God if he exists). I do believe in cause and effect. That means that something causes us to make certain decision, so every decision is related to a certain scale; however, one with a better knowledge will edge over others. You still cannot eliminate "luck". Skill will only increase probability, but it does not give a guarenteed result.
Therefore, the relationships are reasonably balanced.
Sorry I am sleepy. I don't want to fix my grammar.

Careful planning (skill) can foster an environment for opportunities (chance) to arise. Therefore, life involves both. Individual relationships are not necessarily equal in comparison, but we are all interdepedent in some form or fashion.

When looking at life as a game I understand your question on the best strategies of. However,The end result of a game is to either win, or lose. To think of any life as a loss is unthinkable. It's more than chance or skill. it's opportunities, desire, wisdom, choice, easy, hard, happy , sad, it's all good if you've been loved or can love, in the end, you will have won.

Rememeber the game ..Scrable ? What do you do?
You , repeat YOU , pick up seven letters with various numners on them. Once you are dealt these seven letters that is it. You have to play with them.!
There are some who get , large numbers ( points ) but they may not know how to make big words with these letters to score high . On the other hand , there are many who get letters with low points but are able to make out a big word thus gaining more scores.
In other words Life is dealt to you .Once done it is upto you as to how you play with what you have been dealt. The words like control etc . are blocks or restrictions in your life. We should feel free to play the way we want to play.

I've heard that computers are getting really good at both games of chance and games of skill.

I think life is both. It is a matter of skill to make the right decision when chance presents itself.

life is taking chances and treat them skillfully.
take control and be cotrolled are also both chances to practice your skills in opposite directions, maintaining your balance.

Other people control us. We go outside everyday not knowing what is going to happen and we have no say over what will happen. It's simply, is this my day to find a dollar on the street? or is this my day to get hit by a car? and we can't stop it or change it. Its all chance.
