becuase one he was drafted real late and people can't accept that people get better and he has become the best in the league when most people are drafted like eli manning and are expected to be the best

the 2nd reason is just like barry bonds in a way bonds is as good as it seems and people cant accept that he is still innocent until proven guilty so as far as we know those are amazing records by Barry bonds

so people have a hard to time in our generation accepting the best because it does not happen very often as in early years with greats like montana unitas starr etc.

so basically its our generation and them not being able to accept a winner they are always looking for the stats the underdog and just because he has good looks doesn't mean he is overrated like kournikova and derek jeter are.

He's among the 2 best in the league right now, which does not make overrated, but it's not time yet to put him in the same list with the Montanas, Elways, Unitases and even Staubachs (the best in the 70s decade).

Those guys are remembered especially by their long 2 minutes drives in Super Bowls and Conference Championships and especially because they finished in touchdowns and were capable to lead their teams to improbable victories after being 14+ points behind in the last minutes. While Brady finished his drives for Field Goals. Heck, with a kicker like Vinatieri Jim Kelly would have retired with a ring.

Ok, he overcame 8 points vs San Diego (with 4:30 minutes left), but the following week he threw an interception in the last minute that killed the Pats hopes.

As always we see the comparisons with Manning. The only thing I will say is that Manning makes the people around him play better. As an example, Marvin was an established WR before Manning came to the league, he had led his team in receiving yards but never looked like more than a player with potential under Jim Harbaugh (an above average QB then).

He's more like a Terry Bradshaw, the more important the game is, the better he plays. A winner and no doubt he will be a Hall of Famer. But surrounded by a superb defense and a great O-line, and never has to carry the team when the defense is not getting the job done.

He's a good QB, but I don't think he's the best. Look at his team when he won those rings. Can't do it by himself, nobody can. Dan Marino, arguably the best QB ever, didn't win a ring, but look who he had on the team. Would you say that Brady is better than Dan, hell no I wouldn't. Its all about the team. When the Colts won the Superbowl, it was the team, offense and defense. They were just as good offensively the past few years, their defense was lacking though. They couldn't get to the Superbowl. Would Carson Palmer be mention if it weren't for Ocho Cinco and T.J. Whosyomomma? Would Brees be mentioned if not for Bush, Duece, Colston, and Horn last season? Where would Manning be without Reggie Wayne and Marvin Harrison? Joe Montana without Jerry Rice?

Brady's backup has rings too. So does Trent Dilfer -- is he better than Marino because Marino lacks one?

Football is a TEAM sport. It requires excellence all over the field. Brady is very good, but rings don't really mean squat other than you have a great squad around you.

Furthermore, I don't think anybody is saying Brady isn't an excellent QB, and one of the best in the league. He just isn't the best. That honor falls to Peyton Manning.

Brady has the luxury many QBs don't have. His D is so good that Brady isn't pressured to throw for 300 yards and 4 TDs a game for his team to win. It is MUCH easier to succeed when you know all you to do is get a couple of TDs and your D will get you the win.

Manning, on the other hand, has one of the worst Ds in the NFL (in fact, the worst run D in the history of the NFL last year). Despite that, he won a Super Bowl. Manning has to be on 100% of the time, every game, or his team will lose. Not so with Brady.

Brady is more of a Bart Star. Certainly a great QB, but really excellent at not losing instead of winning. Guys like Marino, Manning, Montana - they put their teams on their backs exclusively, and that sets them apart from the Brady's of the world.

Some argue "Brady has no receivers" but what those people ignore is that Manning MAKES his receivers. Harrison is a legit star, but Wayne wasn't until Manning came around. Look at all the mediocre receivers Manning made producers while in Indy who fade elsewhere (Pathon, Pollard, etc.)

Again, Brady is great. Anyone who says otherwise is crazy. He just isn't Manning, and all the rings in the world won't change that.

BTW, Victor. Wayne was 1st round, but what you conveniently didn't mention was he was the 30TH PICK!!!
6th receiver taken overall, behind such "superstars" as David Terrell and Freddie Mitchell. Wayne wouldn't be a star anywhere else. Manning made him who he is.

Whoa, whoa, whoa - Manning makes his receivers? Harrison has been one of the best in the league since he was drafted and the reason Wayne wasn't a star in the NFL until Manning came to the NFL is because Wayne was in college until Manning was in his fourth year. Wayne was a 1st round pick - he certainly wasn't picked in the 1st round because he was expected to suck.

And to say that rings don't mean squat? That's ridiculous. Absolutely ludicrous. That's what these guys play for.

And to say that it's because Brady doesn't throw deep downfield? Good Lord. If you judge by the quarterback "making his receivers" then look at what Brady did last year with a collection of half-baked stiffs like Jabar Gaffney and Reche Caldwell - he came within one game of another Super Bowl. And yes, he threw a clutch interception, but that's one playoff game out of what? 15? Even Joe Montana had the occasional mistake in a playoff game (see 1987 against the Vikings when the 49ers had the best team in the league). I think he hasn't gone downfield because he hasn't had the collection of receivers to really go downfield - he's had to play to the skills they have. And don't try to sell Deion Branch as a star receiver - look at the numbers. He's one of the most overrated receivers in the game. He's never had 1000 yards and he's never scored more than 5 touchdowns in a season.

Actually I think Montana is a more apt comparison for Brady than Bart Starr. Montana made a career as the first quarterback in the "West Coast offense". He made a living, especially early on, throwing short passes and letting his running backs, tight ends and receivers run with the ball after the catch. He was playing to the strengths of the people he played with. This year it will be interesting to see if he does go downfield more with guys like D. Stallworth and R. Moss. I would bet he does.

There are a lot of clowns that submit some pretty strange questions to this answers.yahoo.com deal. But this questioner I actually agree with. Sure. Brady isn't as talented necessarily as Peyton Manning. Certainly not as flashy. But he doesn't get nearly the credit he deserves.

I don't know what kind of football fans say Tom Brady is overrated, i guess brainless fans or just Tom Brady haters period. You can't hate Brady, the best QB of this generation, 3 Super Bowl with a 12-2 playoff record and the best under pressure QB in the league and he's gonna win it again this year, they are loaded in every position. Haters of the best QB in the league are just gutless fans.

Because people like you overrate him. He hasn't been around nearly long enough to be called one of the best clutch players of all-time. He is more of a system guy, and if he played for another team, he would be considered just another good QB.

2007-08-11 04:49:48 · answer #7 · answered by Anonymous · 2 0

Because he is over-rated. Too many people try to promote Brady as being one of the greatest QB of all time. He is not and doesn't even arguably make the top 10. SB rings are NOT a valid form of measuring the talent of a QB - look it up. Brady is a great "team".

Look at all the past SB "teams" and look at their QB. Then think about Marino that was not on a SB team or all the backups that sport SB rings that never took a snap. Who was that QB that won a SB with the Ravens.. what was his name?

I think it's because he doesn't have thy physical tools "Franchise Quarterbacks" have. He doesn't have Vicks speed or Manning's arm. You can make the case he is a system quarterback like Joe Montana,Steve Young,or Trent Dilfer. The theory being if he was in another system he wouldn't be half as good. Unfortunately his shy personality holds him back. Another point Akili Smith and Ryan Leif are two prime examples of "Franchise Quarterback" seeing they have the physical tools but crashed and burned in the pros. Dan Marino is the best example he was a better quarterback than Tom Brady in every aspect but number of championships and playoff record!

Perhaps they are envious because their team doesnt have a potential backup QB that could do the great things that Brady has done 4 NE. Mind u, I m not a Pats fan, but I respect what the team has accomplished, going from doormat to champion.

I guess I see Tom Brady achieving his accolades with a very talented and unselfish group holding him up. It is sometimes difficult for people to see a backup coming in and being successful. Bledsoe is an all time great quarterback and Brady stepped in and took his spot. In Cleveland we had Bernie Kosar for many years and when Vinnie Testaverde took over it rubbed many people the wrong way. I thought the same way when Steve Young took over for Joe Montana. To this day I will continue to scratch my head as to how Young got in the HOF.

Maybe that is the reasoning.
