Silver nitrate turns brown/black because of the reaction with skin. It reacts with the organic matter in skin. Also, Silver nitrate can become brown/black after being exposed to light.

Skin contact with silver nitrate solid or solutions is likely to leave silver stains on the skin. These develop slowly over a period of hours and are initially brown, but darken gradually to black. Once the stains become apparent, they cannot usually be removed with soap and water, but gradually disappear as new skin grows.

It's not permanent trust me I spilled some on my hand a while ago. It's goes away after a few days.

The silver ions are easily reduced under the surface of the skin:

Ag+ + e- ----> Ag.

The stain is silver metal, which is why the stain takes so long to disappear.

Because it oxidizes on cantact with the salts on the surface of your skin. You are essentially...no offense intended...tarnished.
