If it's from a dog or a cat, go to PetSmart or some other pet store & buy a bottle of Nature's Miracle. Soak the spot, let it sit for about five minuted then blot with a clean towel & let dry. I've found this stuff to be truly miraculous at cleaning up stains forom my pets' "accidents."

Blot up excess moisture with paper towel. Pour club soda on the spot and continue blotting. Lay a towel over the spot and set a heavy object on top in order to absorb all the moisture
After cleaning up the mess, it's essential to remove the scent from your floor, carpeting, or sofa. And nothing does that better than vinegar:
On a floor, blot up as much of the stain as possible. Then mop with equal parts white vinegar and warm water. (On a wood or vinyl floor, test a few drops of vinegar in an inconspicuous area to make sure it won't harm the finish.) Dry with a cloth or paper towel.

For carpets, rugs, and upholstery, thoroughly blot the area with a towel or some rags. Then pour a bit of undiluted vinegar over the spot. Blot it up with a towel, then reapply the vinegar-let it air-dry. Once the vinegar dries, the spot should be completely deodorized.

Good Luck !

Most of these answers are very good but I would like to mention that if the pee soaked through to your under pad you could have an odour problem. If you find the smell keeps coming back after you have cleaned your carpet you may have to cut out that piece of under pad that was wet with pee and put in a new piece. Easy to do and cheap. you could go to a carpet store and i am sure they could give you a piece for the size you will need for free from remnants or just laying around in their truck or shop. cut out the bad and tape in the new. duct tape works great.

If it's animal pee, use an enzyme product like Nature's Miracle. The enzymes will remove the scent that draws the cat/dog to want to pee there again. Vinegar won't accomplish that if it's cat pee.

There are many enzyme products available most pet stores.

Pour a small amount of white vinegar on the spot. With a clean cloth, blot up the moisture...do not rub! Repeat until smell is gone.

Soak up as much as possible with paper toweling. Then, using a cloth, pat the area with club soda; pat with clean paper towels. Repeat until it disappears. It will remove any odor also.
