My daughter is mentally challenged and has to be shown how to do something and be able to practice several times. I need someone with patience and a good attitude to work with her for acouple of sessions. Once she gets it I think it will boost her self esteem she is 14 and wants to fit in...doesn't want to learn from "Mom" however.

Sometimes you can find freelance hair/makeup artists in the local newspaper, maybe if you paid them a couple of sessions they might be able to teach your daughter how to apply appropriate makeup properly. (Styles that are flattering but natural and obviously not too much cos your daughter is only 14)

It doesn't hurt to ask, and hopefully they would be friendly because these freelancers go to peoples homes for weddings and thinngs like proms... ?

Good luck!! you sound like a great mum :)

Go to the library or buy some "teen" magazines and see what type of look she likes.. Once you find that particular look, take the picture to the mall and have a make-up consultant try to duplicate that look on your daughter step by step.. Take her picture with a digital camera when it's done and buy something even if it's small from the sales girl.. Then go to the store and find cheaper versions of the same colors and products... Also, it's very important that she not only learn how to apply make-up properly but, also how to remove it and care for her skin ! If you have some money and time to burn you can have a spa day and hire a professional make-up artist/hair stylist to do everything.. That would be a fun way to spend the day together... good luck

I am a Mary Kay beauty consultant. i have learned a lot about makeup from other consultants. your best bet is to go to the website and get some tips from there. and if that is not good then you can contact a consultant and they will teach you how to apply makeup for free in a session. no charge.

If you have a local beauty school, I would call and ask to see if one of their instructors is willing to show her.

you could try and take her to grooming and deportment classes. maybe a family friend can teach her or family or maybe even one of her friends.
