The scariest edge of your seat movie would be the original John Carpenter Halloween. There is little blood shown at all and you never see the actual deaths...just the out come. The lack of gore is what made this movie so suspenseful in the first place.

The goriest movie ever? I'm not really sure but its somewhere along the lines of Hostel or any Final Destination movie

Some of the best horror films (old and new) i've seen are... The Descent (Worth watching!) The Descent 2 Hostel The Shining The Exorcist House of 1000 Corpses The Devil's Rejects (Sequel to the above) The Hills have Eyes Ju-On Ringu The Others The Fourth Kind (Paranormal/Alien - scary) Livide (French, artistic and disturbing) The Hills Have Eyes (Great film) The Hills Have Eyes 2 House of Wax Jeepers Creepers 2 Orphan (Psychological) Hostel Hostel 2 Train (Gory) Sleepy Hollow (Horror/Fantasy) The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning

Of the disturbing or suspenseful kind? I like a lot of the stuff that's coming out of Asia recently more than the American Cinema.

Try: Shutter (definitely at the top of the list), Cursed, and Tale of Two Sisters.

With some more blood and gore, but not much more, you can try Uzumaki (VERY disturbing) and The Eye.

For gore? Well, I like Natural Born Killers and Ichi the Killer (because sometimes humanity is the most horrible thing there is), Silent Hill (it really surprises me that most people haven't figured out what's really going on in that film), and Cure (don't get it if you have a fear of medicine and needles!)

Alien, The Exorcist, Silence of the Lambs, The Shining, Jaws, Halloween, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th & even (with what you don't see) Blair Witch Project.

Night of the Living Dead & Dawn of the Dead, Suspiria, Cannibal Holocaust, Inferno, Maniac, & of course you can't forget: Texas Chainsaw Massacre, or Saw (1, 2, & 3),

**Alfred Hitchcock was a master on many levels, so I may also suggest any of his films (i.e. The Birds, Vertigo, Psycho, North By Northwest, etc.)

Stephen King's Children Of The Corn
Stephen King's Maximum Overdrive or Christine

* Basically any Stephen King Movie. I really enjoyed watching Stephen King's"Sliver Bullet". All four movies made you think twice when ever your stranded in the middle of nowhere or making sure of your surroundings. There are parts that make you jump and scared at night.

I own two versions of "The Haunting". The 1963 one is a bit better as a subtle scary movie. The new one has Catherine Zeta-Jones, so that is in its favor. Hard to find is my favorite horror gore film, "Dangerous Seductress" (1992, Indonesia). 2nd is "Werewolf woman" (1972, Italy). I have exotic tastes.

I loved the Descent. Its a horror and has some scenes of gore but overall its one of those scary movies that makes you jump outta your seat.

For blood and guts rent Cannibal Holocaust sometime. Its pretty sick in parts and is a really good movie.

Enjoy.

No gore: Poseidon (it's not really a horror, but it does keep you on the edge of your seat. I seriously recommend you watch it), 13 Ghosts (there was only one gory scene in this).

Gore: Saw (any of the three really), Ghost ship

Hope I helped!

Any of the "saw" movies are good for blood and gore and "what lies beneath" is a really good edge of your seat movie.

If you can tolerate subtitles, I recommend Takashi Miike's Audition. It actually can fit into both categories somewhat. Some of his gangster films also have quite a bit of gore. Also, try Dario Argento's films.
