I just bought a big bore kit for my 4 wheeler, and the piston has the rings installed, and it is hard to move threw the cylinder, even with oil in ir, i put it around the cylinder, and piston, and its stiff. shouldn't it be at leased a little loose?

AND

the big bore kit came with a head, thats smaller than the one i had, and with the engine being an overhead valve engine, it made my cam chain loose, and the head cover not fit, what can i do?

is there a way i can put like a rubber spacer/gasket between the head and head cover?

and, i will look for a ring compressor tomarrow when i take my rounds to the store.

A properly installed piston, has a specified piston to cylinder wall clearance, as well as spec'd end gap on the compression rings. Be very certain these are correct. Don't forget to oppose the end gaps on each ring on final piston installation, the bores should be straight and sqaure, with no tapers, and a good cross-hatch finish will help in seating the new rings, not to mention engine performance and longevity. It sounds like you may have the wrong cylinder head, the cam chain can never be too tight or loose. Piston/valve/cylinder head clearance is vital, if ever in doubt, put a layer of soft putty on top of the piston, and gently turn the engine over by hand. Check for interferance marks in the putty.

A piston with the rings on will have a certain amount of stiffness in the bore. The rings have to have some pressure against the cylinder wall to do their job. I would guess a comparison would be the piston would take similar force to push it down in the bore, as it would to compress a bicycle pump in when the tyre already has 40-50psi in the tyre? However the piston without the rings should not be tight. It should slide freely but not be able to rattle sideways (an 8-10 thousandths feeler gauge should fit between piston & bore).

You need the tool to sqeze the rings and gentely tap the piston into the sleeve,pick it up at any local automotive store,when done clean it up and take it back,you'll never get it in without this tool,i forget what it's called but they will know what your saying in the store.

If the parts don't fit than there wrong or you need more parts?Best be calling the supplier.
