Given that up to 75% of the national pea stock has been lost due to floods, and the possibility of food prices going up, should we be that concerned given the amount of wastage and rejection that normally occurs due to crops not being quite the right size, shape etc yet perfectly okay to eat?

yes we should be concerned because a lot of the waste is actually used as animal feed so if it is not available as food for the animals it will have to be bought elsewhere, so again the prices will go up, hence a double whammy as regards to inflation

I think obviously there has been some disruption to crops,but farmers and supermarkets will see this as a chance to make more profit.

i saw on the news during the floods that the potato crop was all mashed up, so no spuds for us this autumn

Perhaps the supermarket buyers will have to learn not to be so fussy in deciding what WE want to eat ! ! !
