There is a small amt of water coming up through the carpet in our hallway. It is right in front of where the a/c thing is and is also near a bathroom and the washer/dryer. We were hoping it was just condensation from the a/c b/c it has been running non-stop for the past few days b/c of the heat outside. But, now we're not sure. I am also not sure of the true nature of the water b/c it had dried out a little bit overnight friday, but idk if it was b/c the source had stopped overhight of if it was b/c my mom put a towel over it. Has anyone else had anything like this happen? What is the likelyhood that this is something that will be horribly expensive? :(

Oh yeah, the water heater is above the clothes dryer.

I am in FL, so we don't have a basement. It seemed to get a little bit worso yesterday when I did a load of laundry. It was there the day before and no one had done any laundry, but my mom said she heard that didn't matter that the washer could leak anytime.

In our last apartment, we had exactly this problem. The AC unit was in a closet and the hall ran along the closet wall. During times where the AC was run alot, the condensation would build from the AC unit and we would end up with a sopping wet carpet. Our apartment complex didn't fix it even though we told them alot. They didn't think it was a big deal. But, over time, we noticed a white edge to where the moisture was and the hall area started to smell musty. It definitely seems like it would be a dangerous situation for mold.

If it were me, I'd head down to Home Depot and ask at their help desk. I've run into weird little things like this and have found them very helpful. You can call them too. Any way, good luck. We moved because it seemed so gross and unhealthy, among other things too. Good luck.

Water Coming From Under Carpet

I doubt if it is from your AC; the AC has been running constantly because it is trying to get the humidity out of the house where it is wet (not necessarily because of the outside heat) therefore the leak has to be coming from a leak elsewhere.
Can you check underneath your appliances? Or in the basement to see where the wet spot it coming from (and maybe running towards where the wet spot on the carpet is?)
When you run the tub, shower, washer is that when you notice the wet spot getting worse? That should narrow down your options.Expensive or not, if you wait too long it could ruin the flooring and cause it to buckle making more problems.

Call a plumber NOW, or you are going to have a mess which could include warped floors which will need replacing! This has happened to us and of all people.....our insurance man!!! I kid you not. Water a couple of inches deep from the water heater. We had gone shopping and came home to a flood.

You might also have a broken water main under your house. A plumber will determine this and call the City to come out and fix it.

Plan on staying at a motel or hotel for a few days. The insurance company will pay for your stay and food.

Mother in law had same problem. Water coming up out of floor. She lived in a condo with a slab floor. I had to chisel through the concrete, and I found that the builders had used a flexible plastic water line and buried it in the slab. The probem was that they had crimped the tubing during installation and it caused a leak. Had to turn off water, cut the line, and install a union in the tubing, and mix up some concrete and redo the bathroom floor. Took care of the problem. good luck.
