I don't usually copy and paste answers in... but this was my second to last blog... I got it from a friend. I read this and cried! Read it before you decide to thumb it down for being too long!
My name is Chris
I am three,
My eyes are swollen
I cannot see,
I must be stupid
I must be bad,
What else could have made
My daddy so mad?
I wish I were better
I wish I weren't ugly,
Then maybe my mommy
Would still want to hug me.
I cant do a wrong
I cant speak at all
Or else I'm locked up
All day long.
When I'm awake I'm all alone
The house is dark
My folks aren't home
When my mommy does come home
I'll try and be nice,
So maybe ill just get
One whipping tonight.
I just heard a car
My daddy is back
From Charlies bar
I hear him curse
My name is called
I press myself
Against the wall
I try to hide
From his evil eyes
I'm so afraid now
I'm starting to cry
He finds me weeping
Calls me ugly words,
He says its my fault
He suffers at work
He slaps and hits me
And yells at me more,
I finally get free
And run to the door
Hes already locked it
And I start to bawl,
He takes me and throws me
Against the hard wall
I fall to the floor
With my bones nearly broken,
And my daddy continues
With more bad words spoken,
"I'm sorry!", I scream
But its now much to late
His face has been twisted
Into a unimaginable shape
The hurt and the pain
Again and again
O please God, have mercy!
O please let it end!
And he finally stops
And heads for the door
While I lay there motionless
Sprawled on the floor
My name is Chris
I am three,
Tonight my daddy
Murdered me
And you can help
Sickens me to the soul,
And if you read this
and don't pass it on
I pray for your forgiveness
Because you would have to be
One heartless person
To not be effected

There are two positions in this debate that I think are equally ignorant and wrong headed: 1. all spanking, no matter how it's done, is child abuse. The is stupid. Child abuse is a legally defined term and so long as spanking remains legal, it's not child abuse. It may be unnecessary, it may do more harm than good, it may be hypocritical, whatever. But it is not, by definition, child abuse. 2. Spanking is the only form of discipline, ergo if you don't spank, obviously you have out of control kids since theres no other way to discipline. Whether you choose to spank or not, whatever, but if it was outlawed tomorrow and you did not have the option and you couldn't figure out an effective alternative, then you suck at this whole parenting thing. All appearances to the contrary aside, most people are smart enough to see through ridiculous extremes.

For a parent or parents who actually physically abuse kids they should have the kids removed from their homes and they should be sterilized so they can have NO MORE KIDS. They should also be prevented from EVER adopting kids. BUT IF BY PHYSICAL you are meaning discipline then I think these parents should be commended. There are far too many kids who suffer from LACK-A-SLAP. And there IS a DIFFERENCE between the two.

I was raised by abusive parents and am against it. It causes anger and resent in the child. Comes a day the child hates those that brought them into the world. The child may tolerate parents once the child is an adult. But the resentment and anger remain. Even little things trigger the bad memories. Now an adult and parent I am an over protective parent. And lash out at anyone I think is causing my child harm.

American kids are a pampered lot. And the term physically abused is very freely used over there. It seems as if they were beaten by a baseball bat or something.
In India it is no big deal. Parents should be left to do the parenting and not be monitored. They too should be given a chance to grow up.

On one hand, it is terrible and the parents should be severely punished... YET... On the other hand, the parents were probably abused kids themselves...Unfortunately, it all becomes a sick and twisted LEARNED and repetitive cycle of abuse which is passed from generation to generation... Intervention and long term counseling by very qualified people seems to be the only solution...

maybe these kind of parents also experienced same abused they are now doing to their kids. They grew up with bad experiences and bad doings of their parents too. But it is not right, they must be punished depending on what kind of abuse they've done.

abuse hurts. even if a little dude is a terrer abuse should never be an option. behavure is learned and if a little dude feels he can get away with it he will continue to do it. IMHO it is bad parenting,
love your little dudes with all your body and soul
laws should be tougher for abusers

Depends on how ya mean abuse. Problem with society now is the lack of discipline .. I received a few beltings on the bum , and I soon learned right from wrong ! One of my mates was taken to by his mum, with the cane, (handle of a duster ) but he was a quick learner , so it wasnt overly used but he knew what expect if he stuffed up.
